I brought along my lovely wife for the ‘recovery’ of my new purchase and she loved it. I acquired this 5-ton in Maryland and desired to get it to our place in California.
I didnt want to take a chance on that length of a trip, where a tow bill would erase any savings from self transporting...
Mounted my Bridge Weight Plate - and (of course) had to display the number that seems to be mandated by the hobbyist group.
Haha - I know all about commercial vehicle weight limits and axle combos.... but I don’t believe I’ll be waived off an approach at any bridge crossings for being “over...
I don’t know about his XM...
but my solution was very simple and it’s loud enough too. I just use my JBL Bluetooth speaker and play my iTunes.

I too am interested in going in this direction... and have wondered the same.
I believe that this will be more and more relevant in the future as the 14 X 20's are in short supply. Those (like myself) with working CTIS systems would like to keep them.
An additional benefit to this design is that when you remove the generator you can store other things, (e.g. tools, chains, supplies) in a box that I'll make to fit in the lower tray. Win/win.
I wanted to add a mount to the front bumper area for my generator.
I use it (generator) to power my sound system for parades and also intend to use it for camping. Previously, I just carried it in the bed but the noise and exhaust would interfere with my riders in the back...
Here's the...
Done! came out great... and just in time for the parade on the 4th.
I'll do a build thread and include details and photos of the fabrication, including the black plastic dip to subdue the yellow color.
I also agree (looks great!)... can't figure out why some people go out of their way to criticize - negatively. Or... if that's not even their intention, they make irrelevant comments (selling/classifieds) but maybe he REALLY wants to buy it.
I too am interested in your prep & application...
It's quite the ride - off road too. I just picked up some girls having their bachelorette party on the Muholand Fire road near the Nike missile site. They had a blast.
What part of CA are you in? If in So-Cal I'll have my 5-ton in the Newhall 4th of July Parade. Feel free to come by in the morning while we're staged and take a close look. It gets lots of attention - people love it.
Buffalowana - I asked in another thread - but you may know...
I was told by someone that has and/or works on the 923 & 925 A2's - that said when airing down for 'Sand' on the CTIS the 1600's will rub. I was trying to wrap my head around the notion of how less air increases tire diameter...
Love the look of those lights!
I checked the JW Speaker site and did not see those same lights... What Model Number/Series are they and/or your source of supply?
Also, any blockage of the air intake on passenger side of front grill from the Whelen light(s)?
Question for those that have done the 14's to 16's conversion on their 5-tons... specifically any 923 or 925 A2's:
I was told that if/when you air down to 'Sand' mode the rears would rub. Any info on this?
It kind of reminds me of the old joke about tires being flat..."but only on the...
Thank you Ken (acme66) - I have learned a lot about so many different aspects of these trucks from your experiences. Always enjoy watching your videos.

Laws vary from State to State on the registration requirements for vehicle to be considered a 'RV'.
Some people think that throwing a cot in a trailer is 'calling it good' to change their registration from a commercial vehicle to a recreational vehicle - but it won't fly.
The typical...
Keep it!
I enjoyed reading this as I learn more from happening upon these threads than trying to use the search feature - which tends to (often) lead me to places of irrelevance.
For those nay sayers... I also know how to read a TM.... but a video - like the one posted - is worth its weight...
