Ended up swapping all 8 from that FleaBay special from few days ago.
3 good, 5 bad. Besides testing them with multi-meter, I did quick test with jumper cable to confirm. From now on, I'll be testing them all that way as it's easy, fool proof and ultimately I think more reliable.
Your second picture is it.
That's what happened to mine as well. Worked for little while, than started jumping to max.
I ended up buying 200A unit since I wanted 12VDC option without just using one battery.
Same in the HUMVEE world.
Some have had decent luck changing just the voltage regulator.
Many choose to use this 'opportunity' to just upgrade to 200A unit and gain 12V output as a bonus.

What's the proper or correct resistance for HUMVEE's glow plugs?
Is it basically short is good and thetefore working and infinite open is bad, as in not conducting?

I need glowplugs for my M998 6.5 GEP.
Is there anything available at local AutoZone? If not, what's a good source (outside of that gasket set that I might just get anyway)?
How much did you drop on each set of 2? There is a thing on FleaBay now and Hummer Parts Guy has some too.
I don't really get any snow here in central New Mexico, but if it's only a couple hundred bucks and a one time investment, it might be worth having it for that once in a 100 year storms.
You should look into getting a lift -- can't help you with the weather :-)
Provided you have enough room, car lifts are surprisingly affordable. They come in many different styles, portable, fixed, 2-post, 4-post, high and low bars, etc.
Mine gets a good amount of use -- if not on my own junk...
