    M1009 Little Red Riding Hood.

We have had problems with Class 125 fittings failing on the air compressors on my boats. I make sure to buy class 150 fittings for our air systems.

    Brake upgrade options

Convert to DOT 3 or 4 fluid. I haven't done this. I did rebuild my calipers and had a clear waterline on the pistons. Or, remember to turn your calipers upside-down when you flush the fluid. With that said, I've never heard of any complaints with the brakes on the civy trucks. It's a system...

    Dark Seas M1008 Project

I had a throttle shaft seal issue that led me to attempt to rebuild my own IP. It should be possible. All of the adjustable pieces can be removed and reinstalled without changing the adjustments, or so I thought. This was a good running pump. I would not attempt to reseal a poorly running pump...

    Dark Seas M1008 Project

Seriously, the truck started with difficulty and ran. It knocked and made unhappy noises. Maybe has some misfires. It smoked gray at all speeds. My truck would would start after sitting overnight and die immediately when I tried to accelerate. I replaced the lift pump which made it better for 6...

    Dark Seas M1008 Project

I tried to reseal an injection pump and this was my result. Should've just done the throttle shaft seal.

    CUCV M1008 Build

Take the caliper off and rotate it so the bleeder is on the bottom before flushing. Rock Auto has caliper seals. It's really inexpensive to open the calipers and clean them out properly. They are tricky to reassemble. Mine had a waterline at the middle of the piston. The piston and bore are...

    3116 injector install

You don't need a cup reamer unless you see carbon in the injector bore. A rag and a screwdriver is usually sufficient.

To blast or not .. and then what. Professional advice sought

No need to wire brush. Wipe it down with phosphoric acid. Some paints will tolerate some flash rusting. Hydroblasting is gaining popularity for industrial applications for a variety of reasons. There are corrosion inhibitors that can be added to the water to prevent flash rusting but most paint...

Unimog as a cross country RV.

I wonder if anyone has considered using helicopter or turboprop transmission oils in their gear hubs. Turbine transmissions operate at high speed and load continuously. Recently I was presented with some large bearings that were overheating. Previous operators decided to use high temperature...

    Glow plugs low voltage

Watch the volt meter on the dash. It should dip during the glow plug cycle. That is a quick way to determine glow plugs are working. Look for white smoke from exhaust. No smoke means no fuel. The throttle shaft seal on the injection pumps fail and that lets the pump drain when the truck sits...

    Glow plugs low voltage

The voltage to the glow plugs should actually be 10.5 volts. Can you give us a better description of not starting? Is the engine turning on the starter? Are you getting any vapor out of the exhaust? You have clearly made an assumption but not told us anything about what you know.

Blown head gasket or something else?

When you buy the test kits you have to buy a special fluid for diesel engines. They don't have less CO2 in their combustion products than gas engines. With that said, the only time I have tried to use a kit was on a Cat 3512 that was blowing bubbles. The test never indicated anything. We used...

    Speedometer Failure?

I think they use grease for damping which gets hard over time. I don't know what viscosity.or consistency grease should be used but if you never want to do it again Krytox GPL 200 series should have what you need.

Blown head gasket or something else?

That's exactly what my 6.2 was doing. It would push coolant into the reservoir when running but would hold pressure for months when the engine wasn't running. This kept it from pulling coolant from the reservoir. It ran this way for quite some time but gradually got worse. Disassembly revealed...

    Replacing Exterior Bolts with Stainless

There are inorganic aluminum-zinc coatings that are far superior to plated fasteners and perform almost as well as stainless with less seizing issues.. Dacromet is a common trade name. https://www.nofmetalcoatings.com/ I am a little embarrassed to share the link to their website. It has...

    M998A1 6.2 NA injector options

The injection pump will cause over fueling and black smoke if it has been turned up or built to a higher output spec which is quite possible to have been done during a rebuild.

    M998A1 6.2 NA injector options

On the civvy engines 88.5 and earlier had long bodies and later had short. Your application likely has shorts. You can tweek the injector lines to fit shorts if you have to.
