What have you done to your FMTV or LMTV today

Got it weighed. Airlift extensions removed, 2nd spare tire/wheel in the bed over the rear axle, 1/2 tank of diesel, me (after lunch) You can see I have some work to do to better balance front/back ratio currently 63/37.

    LMTV-->Rally Truck clone/poser/wannabe build thread

Plan is to stick with the long leaf spring setup for now, there is soooo much to do elsewhere on the truck and the leafs work OK for now. I'm thinking the battery box & air tanks are gonna have to be relocated between the frame rails outta the way....the rocks might grab 'em in the stock...

    Thank you Mr. 1951.

Yes the design is intended to be effective to some degree in the case of total separation of the cab from the truck. A capsule, sort of. The thinking is 1. May not need to go as large as 2.0 x 0.250 wall tubing, since its not the case that the entire weight of the truck will be on the cab. 2...

Almost ready for the cage build: need to remove windshield and engine cover mat.

    M1078: un-build thread.

I had not considered rock sliders at the roof line. In some of those Top Truck Challenge videos, there are rigs that have small wheels mounted horizontally at the roof edge just for that purpose. I have not been impressed with those wheels in action, however.

Yes, I did consider an exocage. The Fabricator tells me that the vertical elements catch on rocks/ canyon walls. I see evidence of this in the Top Truck Challenge videos. A popular trail near here is Box Canyon at Florence AZ, so you get an idea: With an internal cage the sheet metal smashes...

    M1078: un-build thread.

Plan is being executed for the roll cage fab, may as well share how stuff comes apart then goes back together. A stripped out cab is en route to the fabricator (thank you, NV555). When the cage is finished, will swap the modified cab with mine. No need for me to wonder what to do with my...

What would a LMTV completed run? Pic enclosed Also where do you find the hood racks

Hi Seth, could you please estimate a dollars spent ratio: truck chassis/living quarters ? I'd like to get a sense of how much resources the LMTV chassis alone will consume, without the expedition stuff.

    PSI at the Glad Hands?

There's a fella in Montana who figured that, well the body temperature of a chicken is 99 degrees, so if he puts six chickens under the hood of his truck on cold winter days then that's, like, 600 degrees. Should start right up.....

There is a big truck fan, user name "Joaquin Suave" I think, who gave excellent advice on those building an adventure rig: "In your backyard, build a plywood box the same size as your planned shelter. Live out of it for a couple of weeks, see what you think of the idea."

What would a LMTV completed run? Pic enclosed Also where do you find the hood racks

I am not shy about saying that I paid $15,000 US for my 1078. Before I purchased it, I saw it sell at auction for $7700 + buyers premium+ transportation as a non-runner. The buyer flipped it to me with a clean AZ title, 4 new batteries, turret cover, 5 high tread Goodyear MVTs, functioning CTIS...

Isn't this where somebody says: "Oh, you can get them at auction in Hawaii or Guam for, like, two thousand dollars."

The aluminum ladders aren't that bad to move around, or that fella is doing the work of two men. I've been told that I do the work of three men: Moe, Larry, and Curly :)
