Yeah , no glow plugs in the cylinders . It is warm enough the cold start shouldn't be needed . a very light shot of ether will probably do the trick .
It may be a good Idea to have soldier B with you and take the air intake off so you can cover it with a board , for if it starts to runaway on...
It is a style of hardtop.

12v starter should have a large lug for the battery cable and small lugs one for engagfing the solenoid anf the other for accessory feed . It sounds like you have a bad relay that is sticking .
This is about the only information on converting it , if it wasn't done with the Rosscommon conversion your probably on your own.
