Removing cover up paint from ammo crates

Pressure wash would do it, but might take off the lettering underneath too. Same for sanding. Same for paint stripper. Any way you do it, I think those markings are lost.

2/8/14 - Breakfast in Eldersburg, Maryland

Oops - can't make it this time. Was on the road today for 7 hours and I'm beat. I don't want another huge trip tomorrow. Some day, gentlemen, someday.

    New M38a1 for me

This happens a lot more than you think to our jeeps. We get something that looks good, and we think "it doesn't need much". Then the magnifying glass comes out and you find all sorts of Bubba-mods that were done over the years. This is especially common with CJs. Looks good as a resto-mod...

    Another roadside find

I hate that term rare - it gets used and thrown around more than a midget whore. Just because something is old doesn't make it rare. And if something is indeed rare, it still doesn't equate to more value. Thomas Jefferson's boogers are rare, not like anyone is going to pay a lot for them.

saving military communications gear at hamfests

I have this 6th sense as well - with OD green, black crinkle, and navy gray radio as well. I usually get to a show, walk quickly around everything, and if a "veteran" radio is on the table I usually do like a double-take and kind of jughandle on back to see what it was. Sometimes it's a false...

saving military communications gear at hamfests

Wanted to start a thread on this topic - going to hamfests and saving military-issue communications equipment and accessories. I'll admit, I am an unapologetic pack-rat when it comes to well-made radio gear, and when it comes to quality, nothing beats the ruggedness of mil gear. I often don't...

anyone have info on AN/VSC-3 teletype? manuals, etc?

Got a control box at the Richmond hamfest today, the data plate just says it's a control box for the AN/VSC-3 teletypewriter set. Info I have found online says that was installed in M-577 command tracks, uses MD-522 modem, AN/UGC-74 teletypes, etc. The control box I have is missing the meter...

What are M416B1 trailers selling for these days?

You have a M116B1, this thread is for M416B1s, you have a 3/4-ton trailer and this thread is about a 1/4-ton jeep trailer. What is it worth? There a 1,000 threads on SS about "I have this, what is it worth?" And all of them are posted by newbies who only want to get rid of their OD green...

    What is This?

That thing looks pretty cool - takes a Russian with balls as big as pumpkins to test drive a 4x4 on a thin ice layer like that in the middle of winter. Bet he has lots of axle maintenance to do now!

shelter-mounted radio sets - TRC, MRC, GRC, or VRC?

Okay, well, did some looking into the FM 24-24 edition I have, which is the 1994 edition, there are several types/designations of shelter installations: Switches: TTC - Automatic Telephone Central Office (TTC = Transportable (Ground), Telephone (Wire), Communications (2-way)) TYC - Automatic...
