I think the eight he is talking about are the rears on a dual rear tire truck.
I have gone down some really steep wind-blown sand dunes, the down-wind side. Never measured but probably 45 degrees. Always straight down. Always with the front axle engaged, T-case in low, and usually in first...
I have bought some 24V, 1000 lumen led floods (Northern Tool) for B/U lights. On the deuce, I put two of them under the front of the bed, pointing about 45 degrees to the sides, and one more on the truck frame crossmember by the rear-rear axle. On the M927, I put two at the front of the bed and...
That is not cheating. That is improvising, adapting, overcoming!!!
I built a replacement foot that fits on the bottom of my hi-lift jack. The baseplate is at a slight angle and protrudes forward, with a slight curve on the leading edge. It is patterned after the spade on a professional bead...
I like to fillet the breasts and cook them on a repurposed harrow disk (Mexican Wok) over a propane burner, with mushrooms, onions, green peppers, jalapenos, and some bacon or sausage for the fat. First you render the fat by frying the bacon or sausage. then you add the breasts (and the hearts)...
Have you guys compared the weight ratings between the GYs and the Michelins? 9.370 vs. 12,300 lbs. That is probably why the sidewalls bulge less on the Michelins with the same pressure. The Michelins have a noticeable growl (in a deuce, no less) that I could not hear with the GYs (more...
Think carefully about the way you want to go and do it once. I started out by buying 395s for the stock wheels. I then didn't like how close the tires are to the louvers in the front wheel wells so I had four stock wheels made into two widened wheels. Buying larger tubes and flaps was a good...
On the back wall of the cab, even with the gap between the driver and passenger seats. Easy to peek through the gap to check the level and easy to fill with the passenger seat folded.
Carry a spare fuel filter. I had to drive 6 hours away once to change the filter on my truck that my daughter was driving to go get my son. He needed to tow a disabled Vette back to our place for me to fix. I sent her because I was at work. She was towed to a place with three truck stops but no...
Eight-sided (8-point) is key. I also had a lot of big boy tools due to farm tractors but no 8-point. Did have access to large 6 and 12 point sockets/wrenches.
Used my deuce with new to me 395s w/ beadlocks on MRAP wheels out in the sand this weekend. Running 25 psi in front and 17 psi in the rear did pretty good. I think 20 front and 12 rear should be much better in the sugar stuff. I previously had 395s with tubes so airing down had its dangers of...
Hey Rich, I second the opinion of using group 31s. I am only using 2 in the 927A1. They turn over the 855 Cummins with no problem, even through our winter. I think I paid about $80 each at Continental battery (w/original batteries for core).
As for the horn, there is a Packard connector near the steering gear box. It is on the wire from the horn button to the solenoid. Maybe there is a loose or defective point there. Erik's lists the solenoid on their website.
I saw a band playing at a church revival here a few months back that were using a 5 ton cargo truck with the dropsides down as a stage. Is that the type of band truck you speak of?
It is a dog clutch that locks it in. If it is under stress, it will not slip out of the lock position until the stress is relieved by driving, turning, backing up, etc. That is why it helps to back up a bit after flipping the switch to engage. It allows for the two parts of the dog clutch to...
No real problem running without the solenoid and just using the emergency shutoff. They work the same component on the injection pump. I ran that way on a truck with battery voltage issues until those issues were resolved, then reinstalled the solenoid.
I haven't really had a need for a mechanic yet. I have been able to handle the issue I have encountered so far. My deuce is the one that has needed the most attention.
