That's badass! Road trips are fun, even when things go wrong. It gives you time to get acquainted with your new truck.
Even though you didn't make it, I'd call it a success!
Judging from the prices of HMMWV's around here, that doesn't seem like a bad deal at all. People ask around that for trucks with soft doors and tops, with no titles.
I personally like the snow camo! It's different, and will be a blast with the winters we have up here!
EDIT:
I found the add...
I have them in my MT/R's on my F350, but the grease inside really screwed with them, and now they're so far out of balance it isn't funny.
For whatever reason, it never crossed my mind about getting all the grease out before mounting the tires. Its horrible.
Practically every military surplus vehicle is impractical, with a few exceptions. Every military surplus vehicle is cool though.
Basically anything that is cool, is going to be impractical.
You said theres no trans right? The engine is probably leaning backwards slightly, causing the fan to dig into the shroud.
Really cool rig btw! Half the fun of buying new things is discovering the little bits of information on it, and bonus parts are always sweet!

That said, I've been eyeballing HMMWVs for a while now. This one caught my eye initially because its in my state of MA, so I could go pick it up myself easily. I was planning on purchasing...
I was buying some parts for my K10, and the guy was building a serious off road truck. He got step bars off a new Jeep Cherokee IIRC, and they looked like purpose built rock sliders. He had to convince me they were a factory Jeep part. They were made out of tube, and were coated in a rough...
I have MT/Rs on my F350, and they're not too fun in hard packed snow / ice conditions. I went to make a left hand turn, but the truck kept going straight lol
I've wondered about this too. My trailer deck is 80" wide, and has a raised perimeter of about 3". I was thinking I could take 2"x10" boards and fill up that 3" gap around the deck, and drive up over the fenders. I don't know if the fenders will take the weight though.
MT/R's around here are...
