    5-ton Detroit lockers needed badly!!

WAIT !!! If you have lockers and jack up both tires ONE WILL SPIN ONE WAY AND THE OTHER TIRE WILL SPIN THE OTHER DIRECTION! Your truck could still have had lockers in it. The way to test is to lift ONE wheel off the ground leave the other wheel on the ground put the truck in neutral and spin the...

    Inside Comms

If they use the old carbon type mic you can you can hook up a couple of flashlight batteries in series with one sets mic and the earphone on the second set and you will be able to talk and hear each other. It won't be very loud but its cool to play with if you have2 sets and nothing to hook them to.

    Non-Detergent Motor Oil???

When you use non-detergent oil all the "dirt and crud" sticks to the inside of your engine - not just the pan. It would be better to run detergent oil and change it often to keep the inside of your oil passages clean. I live in Texas it never gets below 25 - 30 here. Is 6 miles even enough to...

    Deuce overheating help.

I have heard rumors of people running diesel motors without a thermostat and ruining the motor. I was told that if the engine runs to cold the diesel could build up a varnish on the cylinder walls. They said the only way to fix it is to teardown the engine and hone the cylinders. I have never...

    Deuce overheating help.

I don't know how high mine goes. I have measured around 1200 before. The problem with using it as a pyrometer is that you have to get out and open the hood to get a reading. It looks like a small 1 AAA cell flashlight. I don't have it with me or I would take a pic.

Military vs. Civilian Air Brake Systems

The "new" civy trailers release the parking brake at around 60psi. The "old" civy trailers didn't have the parking brakes. I forgot what year the DOT started requiring the parking brakes I think it was in the '80s. The civy parking brake works off the main air system not the braking pressure...

    Battery?

I looked everywhere for the original 6TL batteries but couldn't find any. I found 78DT batteries from Sam’s Club that fit reasonably well. They are smaller but still have 800 cold cranking amps. I haven't had any problems starting any of the trucks I put them in even on the coldest days here in...

    Deuce overheating help.

I have an infrared thermometer I use to check mine. I got it at Pep Boys for around $15.00 on sale. The top tank will usually read around 180. The bottom tank will read around 120 or less. The cooling fins almost always seem cold. I have a oil pressure gauge that will sometimes read 120 psi. I...

    Deuce v. 5-ton for a bob-job

Most states are going to a Federally recommended "classified" license system. For private use vehicles over 26,000 or 26,001 would require a regular class B license. To pull a trailer over 10,000 or 20,000 depending on use would require a regular class A. If you use it in a business, then you...

    Deuce v. 5-ton for a bob-job

The max GVWR allowed on a regular drivers license in most states is 26,000. If you want anyone to be able to drive it on the street you should take the weight into serious consideration. Not to mention the insurance issues... The 2.5 ton weighs about 13,500 empty. Bobbed it will weigh about...

New guy with lots of Deuce questions

I don't know how to put links in a message. There is a thread. The guy's name is CARNAC. Do a search for " VIN info ". The thread says "VIN Info-'You may fire when ready, Gridley". I am not sure how much info he can give you on your truck. You could PM him and see...

How much leakage on a Deuce

All 7 of mine leak. The leaks on the passenger side of the block seem to be coming from the intake manifold where it bolts to the block. I think this if from the turbo. I think it leaks a small amount when the truck is shut down. Then when the truck is started up the turbo pressure causes it to...

New guy with lots of Deuce questions

The auction info had the vin# in it. Isn't there a guy around here that can tell if it is a whistler turbo from the vin? Nice truck!

Check out this deuce Gettin'er done!

I have a m35a2 that makes a knock kinda like that. On mine it is coming from the air compressor. It doesn't have any kind of filter on the compressors intake. I think it must have swallowed something? It still works for now...

    Gulfway Ins. Limitation WOES!!!

I use USAA for all my insurance. I had my Freightliner FLD that was converted to a flatbed insured with them. It was listed as 13tons. When I got my M35A2's they just added them. The M35A2's are around $25.00 per month.

    Heater idea for recovery

If you use 2 of the same kind of fans you can hook them up in series and power them with 24v. That reminds me all the trucks I have picked up from GL have had bad batteries except one. The GL trucks I bought that said, "Runs" all had bad batteries. The one that said "Jumpstarts" had good...

    Heater idea for recovery

I have a Kenwood TS 2000 but no HF antenna. By the question I am guessing you are a radio operator. Not to get off subject but I just picked up a couple of HF Radio Fax / RTTY receiver - printers from GL. They turned out to be in very good physical condition. I hooked them up when I got home...

    Heater idea for recovery

If you are going to be driving your truck in cold weather I would strongly recommend getting a heater that uses engine coolant. I would look for one that can be permanently mounted in your cab after you get it home. If you figure out where the hoses go before you leave you should be able to hook...
