I have a surplus army vise like that. I wanted to mount it on my deuce tractor behind the cab. It has a short deck and other than the 5th wheel the only thing there is the air line pogo stick. I can see a faint paint outline on the deck where a pioneer tool rack was mounted under the front...
Personally, I like hearing you talk about working on this stuff. For anyone who does not know, or rarely opens a gear box, this is hard won knowledge and I thank you for sharing it. I imagine these are stories similar to what my dad would have shared if he had the chance when I was a kid.
Rusty--I presume the mat is on the inside of the floor as opposed to below the floor. Did you then cover the Dynamat with a rubber floor mat? or similar that covers the entire floor? Did you also cover the inside fire wall and rear wall of the cab? Sorry for all the ???, just wanted to know...
Do you have a bumper step out of sight? looks like quite a first step to get up there, at least for my scrawny legs.
Looks like ditch lights just behind the cab at the bottom of the bed. Or is that more of a work light?
So--are you thinking you will add vents or keep it original? Can you add pics please so we can see what the axles look like? Did you pull the wheels and drums to see what shape the seals were in?
Very professional job. I like how you cut out around the other mounting tabs and the access door. Even spacing between panels. more room to stand on the bumper without your toes getting caught up or slipping off is a real plus. I always like your builds.
Was this one of the trucks that been thru a radiation/chem hazard test? Seems there were a couple that had to go thru an extremely long duration for this.
It will look great I think. 2 x 6 or similar? I saw one that had been modified at some point in its life and it had a steel deck. So I thought this was perhaps the way they came. Kind of like the sides of a deuce bed were just cut off.
I assume this will have parade duty mostly? Any place...
sounds like something might be clogging the fuel supply. perhaps a sediment clogging the outlet from the tank or somewhere just before the fuel filter perhaps. my .02
Not sure if this was asked before, my apologies if so. What are your plans for the bed--steel plate, diamond tread, wood, some combination of materials. not sure but I think the original what just flat steel plate. This is a great looking truck. Hats off for saving and the wonderful job...
I had a similar problem. You might try taking the "bent" brace and changing which end attaches to the mirror arm. Also. make sure you stack the arms where it attaches to the mirror bracket the same way on both sides if you have not already. Best of luck and gentle persuasion as Army Truck has...
Love that truck! Can't wait to see her fully finished. Thanks for preserving such a great piece of military history. All the details and all your hard work--awesome!
Never a truer word was said. I like to think you save your best last story for the big man upstairs. He knows you took a few chances, really lived, learned, shared and had a good time.
