On rare occasions you see a training version of an MRAP or Buffalo etc. come on to one of the Auction sites we all follow. Usually plastic armor or similar. so, you never know how your dreams may turn out.
Well heck, that is a great score. Getting groceries is a hoot. Drive in movies if you don't mind parking in the rear. Helping your friends move(not so much). Pulling stumps. Off roading / mud bogging. parades.
Would you say that overall the CTIS is worth its weight if you drive in a variety of road conditions? If you do get all the parts working properly how long would you expect it to stay that way before things go South on you?
The Bobbable and crew cab conversion might be a problem. Most bobbers have the frame length cut down. Once you do that you have a smaller bed. Then converting it to crew cab might make the bed too small to be a worthwhile project. But if you were going for an "Avalanche" type vehicle then...
On the title question--if you go the surplus auction route ask for an SF 97 form with your winning bid. It will aid you in obtaining a title eventually. Search here on the forum regarding "obtaining title" or similar. It has been discussed along with insuring these beasts. If you buy locally...
Interesting question. Always hard to tell someone else what is best for them. Most MV's are relatively slow when you look at the speeds most people travel on the interstate. On the other hand it would probably be hard to find an MV that could not easily tow most travel trailers. Not sure...
What a nightmare. At least it was remedied. Of course the dain bramage from sorting this out won't be compensated for. I will bet this cost the insurance company more than what you paid for shipping. Best wishes here on out with that wonderful piece of MV iron!
Looks like it might have been set up for logging. I would start at the circuit breakers and fuses. Can you tell if the crane is powered by a PTO? If you have not done so already, the Technical Manuals (TM) are located on this site and elsewhere for free. They are gold when it comes to...
I like it. Looks beautiful. It looks as if the boxing only went as far as the angle brace. Not needed beyond that I suppose. I wonder what it would be rated at? 2000?
Best wishes for a safe and fun trip. I am up near Laramie just South of 80. 970 484 2877 if you need something. Sounds like you crossed all the T's and dotted the I's.
I was wondering if a change in mass helps them develop a little more horse power than the LDT versions? The rings look like they are arranged a bit differently as well. Very good to follow your work.
Man, just think of all the cool broken stuff you could fix with a fully equipped one of those. Start the genny, open the clamshell and your open for business. Not as needed with today's ethos of replace rather than repair. But for our stuff that's something else again. Maybe you would not use...
Pretty scary deal. Hard to say what caused it. Something defective in the battery would be high on my suspect list. Probably want to check the battery wires very thoroughly. That much heat and energy being dissipated rapidly could cause some hidden damage. I would start at the connection to...
