Why are you wanting the lift? If it is just for show, then go find the cheapest thing you can and slap it on there.
To fit bigger tires, then how big of tires are you going too? 33x12.50 tires will fit with no lift. Anything bigger and you start to get into the area where your axles will...
Ken, 38 days since I flew.
I don't have any HMMWV engines here in my class right now. So I can't look at them and say for sure what year has the single rear main seal and which year is the 2 piece. I think 1988 was the switch over year. But it could be when GM went to the 6.5 in 1993. I...
I think I figured a few things out.
I was panicking about engine coolant temperatures over 210°. GM made fan clutches that locked up enough to be heard at around 225°. The GM manuals say anything below 230° is ok. The 30 year old Banks Turbo manual says anything below 220° is ok for a 6.2...
Another week or so and time for another report. Warthog emailed last Friday morning that he was doing a hurry up trip to my area and I invited him over. He showed up with parts! Nothing better for us mentally deranged gear heads than a visitor showing up with parts. Thanks Joe.
He actually...
There are many threads about how to do it, who makes the kits and what works best.
Basically, if you just want add on a/c with hot air still coming in through the floor heater vent and defrost vents, go with the NAP kit. I have it in one of my M1009's and it works great. 38°-42° air at the...
Ken,
The GEP NA heads are the square stamped pre-cup and the intake manifold bolts are 90° to the intake port surface. The GEP turbo heads are the same casting number but have the diamond pre-cup and the intake bolts are 60° to the intake port surface. A CUCV NA intake can be modified to fit...
I started writing before you posted the battery question, got busy with my students and then finished after you had posted.
Cummins starters and alternators are available in 12 or 24 volts. I have never searched, but I am sure there are ways to mount a second alternator to a Cummins BT engine...
4L80E to transfer case.
The CUCV trucks all had TH400 transmissions with a 32 spline output shaft. All of the trucks had either a NP208 or NP205 married transfer case. If you find a 4 wheel drive 4L80E with the pedestal/transmission mount bolted to the back of it. Then any CUCV 208 or 205...
I went through this thought process a year and a half ago when I started the Cowdog truck build. GEP 6500, 4BT or 6BT?
4BT was just too much money for the same basic performance as a 6.5 with a turbo and actually less road speed. But, in theory longer engine life.
6BT would be great...
Nothing I own MV wise is 100% stock. I have no problem making something different to fit my specific needs. I have 5 6.x powered vehicles on the road pretty much every day. Here are my observations:
The 3 24 volt starter trucks all start no matter the conditions or how long since they last...
I added the long torque rod to the Cowdog truck. None of my CUCV trucks have it, but the 6.2, TH400, NP208 originally Cowdog did. I figured it couldn't hurt. I had to lengthen it 1.5 inches because the 4L80e is that much longer.
Only the Delco 195° thermostat showed up by this afternoon. I siphoned out 1.5 gallons of coolant and pulled the 190° Murray unit. Though only used for 354 miles. It had a crack on top. I tested the new one on the stove. It opened at 193°.
A quick install and ready to test it out. Once fired...
A spot weld drill bit will be a huge help getting the radio mount rack on the dash off. A hole saw set will come in handy for the holes in the valence and firewall. 5 total I seem to remember.
Be very, very, very careful with the vent plate that goes on the dash pad. Mine broke in several...
Stock was 31 x 10.50. So, if that is the size you get the speedometer should be right on. Or, at least as right on as they were back then. Within 3-4 mph.
I have several thousand miles of M35 driving with a civilian chase vehicle. When I am in the M35 I like the civilian vehicle in front. We always use two way radios. Unless you have an aviation type headset in the M35, you can't hear what the other person is saying. However, they can hear...
Yes, the smaller tires will improve your fuel economy. If you drop your speed down as well. As pointed out above, thinner street tread tires will really help as well.
You didn't state if you need to run a higher speed for your drive or what kind of drive it is. All city and or open road...
