    CUCV VIN Number Plate.........

Are you talking about the manufacturer VIN or the military data plate? The data plate on my CUCV is on the drivers door. Since these are known for rusting is it possible the door was replaced? Rick

looking to buy my first 5 ton on GL. help

You do realize that a CDL is not just an endorsement on your current license don't you? There is a fairly involved written test and then you will need a CDL truck and driver for the test. At least that is how it works in N.J. Rick

    removing the governor?

He is not listening to you guys and he is not going to listen. He wants to spend money, period. He obviously has it to spend. He does not have a clue as to how to build in performance as is obvious by his descriptions of what he will do to get power. Go back to the "Is this a good deal" post and...

    Sunday winching gone wrong...

Just goes to show you are human like the rest of us. It also shows that you don't make excuses for a screwup. Rick

    Sunday winching gone wrong...

When an old guy like that tells you to do something a certain way and you don't and it does not work...................... They will not say I told you so, they will just stand there looking at you with a smile on their face. That is ten times worse than the "I told you so". Chances are...

    removing the governor?

I am a 40+ year master mechanic and carburetors and electric were my specialties. BUT, Since you invited me to NOT participate in any of your threads I will exercise that option. 73M819, Yup, same truck. You see my man, when you dump on people they do not forget. Sorry mod's, he had it coming!

    Sunday winching gone wrong...

I have operated a lot of rentals and the ones with long sticks are the worse. They put a long stick on a machine with hydraulics rated for a standard setup and it just don't happen. If that had been a properly rated setup he could have gotten himself out with little trouble. I have used long...

Stuck deuce and a couple hrs of work.

I am not trying to put anyone down, I just want to make sure everyone knows how to safely recover a vehicle. If you put a strap on a chain that is as bad or much worse because the strap builds energy and if the chain snaps then whatever you have on the chain will not hold it. Rick

Stuck deuce and a couple hrs of work.

we then decided to length my chain and try to bump pull him out and it worked. This is what I based my statement on. From post number 1.

Stuck deuce and a couple hrs of work.

The sweatshirt over the chain was a good idea IF it had been a cable. The problem with a chain is that it will not slingshot, it WILL turn to shrapnel when a link explodes! NEVER yank a chain! Never yank a cable for that matter since it will not stretch. You guys should be carrying 30,000 lb...

    New from NJ

Ben, Another Jersey guy here. That ten day pickup is AFTER the EUC is processed and you get the paid in full invoice. I had to reschedule a pick up because I was on vacation and I had no problems. My dealings with G/L have been good so far. What part of Jersey are you in? Rick

    Clearing up NO STARTS

I have seen cables show low resistance on an ohms test but still have high resistance under load, that is why I always do a voltage drop test. Put the negative wire from the meter on one end of the wire on the terminal of the starter and the positive wire from the meter on the other end at the...

    Clearing up NO STARTS

I don't have much tiome to look over the diagram but the purple wire should be then activation wire for the starter, starter should ground to the block through the mounting and you shopuld have a large ground wire from the engine block to the battery somewhere. I would have to look at mine but...

How do you inflate run-flat tires

Running around on fire with flaming hornets attacking you, day can't get much worse than that. I have personally seen three deaths associated with tires. The one mentioned in this thread and two at a small tire shop in my town. I was on the emergency squad so I got to see every accident in town...

    Clearing up NO STARTS

Check your entire ground return path. Starter to block, block to battery. Any one of those connections with excess resistance can cause low cranking voltage which will heat up the solenoids. Same with the power connections but I am guessing you already checked them. These checks need to be done...

How do you inflate run-flat tires

I have to disagree with the ether trick. I used to do it a lot when I had a 4x4 shop in the 70's, until I went on a squad call where a tire blew up. I can tell you it was not pretty, the guy was just about cut in half! I did some research on it and found out it is VERY dangerous. All it takes is...
