Yeah, that was my first thought when i saw the chunks, and I have a new solenoid to go in with the hope that was the issue.. but the old solenoid doesn’t have any chunks missing.
The biggest of the chunks looks like it would have been round in the center but more square with rounded corners on...
My truck developed this random not wanting to stay running condition one minute and running like a top the next. Acted like it was starving for fuel.
Fuel delivery is all good.. new filter, pump, all that good stuff. Thought i’d take the top of the IP and take a look.
Found these ground up...
I had briefly considered (very briefly) using an embedded ESP32S3 to monitor individual glowplug resistance and operational voltage along with fuel, engine temp, oil pressure, etc in a single gauge but decided that was way overkill. If the WTS light lights, it's getting juice.. if it doesn't pop...
The WTS light *is* +24v, grounding it makes the light light. I and others have just added a small 24v relay so when your glow plug solenoid is activated that relay engages and sends the WTS to ground. That will indicate you have (at least some) voltage going to the glow plugs.
M998 6.2 been running great no issues. New fuel filter, fuel pump, new injectors.. fires right up with half a crank. Manual start box.
Driving yesterday I noticed when i’d take off from a dead stop i’d move forward seemingly normal then about 50 feet it would speed up.. as if the fuel supply...
Yeah, the closer I got to 0 degrees the more the few dead glow plugs I had became evident. I’d bet anything above freezing it would start right up with just two or three. -30 for sure is all 8 working territory.
The first set of glowplugs i bought were cheapos because when I got my truck it was spitting out the #6 glowplug and until I figured it out I didn’t want to chew up expensive plugs. I was told repeatedly that the cheapos were garbage and Wellman was the be all end all of glowplugs. When I...
After I removed them. They were nice and clean and appeared brand new when they arrived. They all metered between 1.6 and 2 ohms... all 8 of them were shot after no more than 4 cycles of 5 seconds on, 5 off rest 5 seconds on. The first two cycles the truck just kind of pop pop'ed.. the last two...
Here’s the board out of my KDS controller.. it had a burned trace but all the components are intact if you need a value off one or more, lemme know. I didn’t throw this out when I converted mine to a manual just in case it would help someone out in the future.
My recommendation would be to...
I've heard the passenger side is a real peach to work on with a turbo in the way. On my NA I can sit in the passenger seat and hit all four.. which was fantastic because it was -5 degrees with a nice constant 15 mph breeze blowing through. I put an electric space heater in the cab so everything...
I have heard some refer to Wellmans as “Swellmans” before but generally they seem well regarded.
I’ve run $38 a set Amazon import glow plugs since I got the truck. I had an issue where it was roasting the #6 glow plug that was eventually solved when I discovered the #6 and #7 lines were...
Thats what i’d expected for $78 plus tax.. what i’ve seen in various posts on the subject.. even my $38 a set Who Flung Dung Amazon glow plugs come in individual little plastic bags that are in small boxes. These came in a plastic zip lock bag that was inside a bubble mailer. That was a big...
The Wellmans measure .03750 so dead on 3/8”… the Kung Flu’s measure just shy of 10mm at 9.73mm.. the Wellmans are 9.49mm, so less than a quarter of a mm difference between them why i didn’t notice any slop with the 10mm socket.
All of them are either wide open or in the MEGA ohm range. Put the Kung Flu glow plugs back in and it started right up. These glow plugs are definitely bad and cooked after just a few 5 second cycles.
I used a 10mm deep well to take out the glow plugs I'd been running (Most Honorable Chinese Ahh Glow Plugs) and used the same 10mm to install the Wellmans. I didn't notice any slop in them putting them in (or taking them back out)... 10 mill is a hair bigger than 3/8" so I'd think i'd have...
Cold weather has officially set in and I thought I’d treat myself to what many (not all) have said were the best of the best in glow plugs.. Wellmans. I bagged a set for $78 off Amazon from Melton Industries out of Columbus, NJ and they arrived today via USPS.. 8 glowplugs in a little zip lock...
Hope they pan out. Now and then guys get these trucks with no boxes at all or end up with boxes so cooked the connectors are unusable. Knowing what those part numbers are would be a HUGE help to those folks. Yeah, I know you can buy a $800 box and be done with it, but for those of us who are...
The big one going to the engine harness (9 pin with 3 big fat pins in the center) I believe is a AMPHENOL Circular panel Connector Straight Plug 9P 97-3102A-20 97-3102A-20-9S
the smaller one going to the dash (8 pin) should be an AMPHENOL 206433-1
These are from the notes I made when I was...
If it's connected correctly to the box.. maybe the box is no good? With the key to "run" you outta have juice to the IP pump solenoid anyway. These engines are pretty simple minded. If you're got compression and fuel making it to the cylinders and those cylinders are warm, you'll get bang.
