Our truck has had the OEM ammeter bypassed, and an aftermarket Stewart and Warner unit now resides where the 24V voltmeter used to be.
It was that way when we purchased it.
We went through several re manufactured Carter BBDs recently anc couldn't get any of them to run quite right. Finally gave up and went with a Rochester. Runs like a scalded dog now!

It is a power gearbox, identical in appearance and fitment to the one that was already there.
I would also make sure that everything was installed properly. In our case, the POs put the draglink on backwards, which resulted in a VERY wide right turn!

Finding the correct pitman might be a bit tricky. I would suggest going to Ramcharger Central and looking for one.
