I'll write something up. Walmart has the 24F's for under $50 each so you can get by with fresh batteries for $200. 1/10th the cost of the AGM batts and 1/4 the cost of the lead acid 6tl's.
Most of the bad press the 3116 has gotten stemmed from a number of defective blocks that were put into boat engines (350hp). Caterpillar took care of all of those under warranty. There have been exhaust valve failures on those same engines, but guys in the know tend to relate that to clogged...
A hockey puck will transmit alot more noise and vibs from the engine. The upper mounts are available on Ebay and through other vendors, the lower ones are much difficult to find.
I'd avoid the M1081.. All the folding panels etc create alot of rattling and noise and the potential for leaks. However they tend to be less expensive than a M1078.. So....
You'll have to change the final drive ratios in the axles to get more road speed. If you go with the 3.09 (or.07) that will get you to 68mph at max rpm.
However at max rpm fuel economy is dismal.
8 lbs? That seems way high. Semi tractors take 3 ish pounds.. My thermo King refrigeration unit takes 6 lbs and it's a 150,000 btu unit that can cool a 53 foot insulated trailer to -10c.
The best A/C systems can only lower the intake air across the evaporator 25-30 degrees and this is generally for very dry air. Add high humidity you loose some temperature differential to take water out of the air. Your not going to see 40 degree vent temps with the cab at 85 degrees and 100+%...
