Well, I guess I'm a pessimist by nature.... If we're speculating on what happened through JJensen's excellent description, I vote for catastrophic engine failure. Sparks could have been coming out of the road draft tube along with all the smoke.
Watch this video of an MTU v-8 diesel on a dyno...
I wish I could say I was injury free with my MVs.... Looking back, standing on a bucket would seem to be an easy injury to prevent, but my deuce has had plenty of my blood spilled on it where I can't see how a reasonable person could have foreseen an injury. For example, when I was trouble...
Mine would stay clean, a nice amber color like it was just poured from the jug, for a few hours worth of driving then it slowly would start to darken with soot. Now I have a centrifugal bypass oil filter so it stays clean for over 1000 miles.
Well, so far you haven't committed any forum foe...
Hi Group,
I've been locating the necessary cables to connect my RT-524 radio and VIC-1 intercom, and I'm installing an MX-7777 suppressor per the consensus recommendations here. There are other threads about finding the cable that goes from the batteries to the MX-7777, but I have a different...
I see Walck's is out of the 0-70 mph speedometers...... I found them at Vintage Jeeps, Inc. for a little cheaper and they're in stock.
Vintage Jeeps,Inc. Parts & Jeep Accessories From The Jeep Parts Experts.
It's part number 640131 for $77.10
*** I just noticed that their part #640131 is...
I'm right there with ya! I DID call NAPCO years ago to ask the price, it was around $15k but that included a new (or remanufactured?) 4-53N..... I'd like to call and ask for the price of everything EXCEPT the engine.
If my LDT fails, I'm not putting another one in my deuce.... It will either...
It is not an internal part, it goes into the end of the pump drive that the timing gear attaches to. You have to put it in place there when you install the pump.
Jon
I would pay them, and then move on. You may have some regrets, but bygones can be bygones. Enjoy your truck!
Isn't that piece part of the cab? I'm not sure, but I know they are prone to stress cracking there from vibration. Fender washers!
Jon
Is this a typo? I haven't looked this up yet, but my AM-1780 amplifier doesn't have a J-801 socket, but my C-2298 remotes do. Did you mean the J-501 port on the amplifier? .....I'll look into this but it's too late for me to stare at manuals tonight.
Jon
I agree with the general sentiments of the other posters here. Depending on what the warranty (if any) states, I think you may have somewhat unreasonable expectations of your truck. From what I gather, they weren't selling the truck as "remanufactured", they were calling it "gone through"...
I got mine for $700, and it was local so I didn't have to worry about shipping. It was new in the crate, 2006 manufactured.... One of the many that sold on GL recently. That price is very good, but there are some guys on here that got them for even less. Now that they're all in the hands of...
Awesome! I especially like the air conditioning....
I have to admit, I'm not exactly sure what I was looking at in some of the pics..... Why did you move the steering box to the outside of the frame? What is the hydraulic pump on the front of the engine for, is it power steering? What about...
Well, my girlfriend likes my 1009 better than I do.... She served in the army and drove/rode in them. I like some things about it, but.....
What I meant by my comment was that you could pour hours of effort and thousands of dollars into doing a first class restoration, and you still have a...
Man, I'd love to tag along on some of these recoveries..... High Adventure!
If I didn't need the box on the back, my first stop would be the closest place that buys scrap. The truck will drive better without it and your fuel economy will be better.
Jon
Yeah, but I wouldn't let that stop you.... There will be a last minute cancellation, even on the day you arrive you can probably go into the office and find a space. Jim and I have adjoining spaces. We're not really sure how big they are, but the last time we squeezed both of our deuces into...
