I definitely don't want this thread to become another deuce transmission fluid debate ;)
I'm leaning towards grease. I know gear oil was Eager Beavers choice in 88 and I do like the fact that you can check the fluid level in the hubs with gear oil, but I would also like to know that I won't be...
The trailer is an 88, but I just bought it. The seal blew the 1st time I used it. Yes, I'm having all 4 seals replaced now. But I'm still considering grease over gear oil.

Hey guys, I know there are members like John Appel that use trailers similar to mine on a regular basis and I was hoping for some advice.
I've got a 20ton Eager Beaver, with Dana D22 axles, that recently blew a hub seal. The gear oil ruined the brake shoes and now a $20 seal is costing $600...
I go there a lot. Make sure you have your vehicle legit, registration, insurance and a valid drivers license or they will turn you away.
I've not be turned away, but a guy in front of me was because he forgot the registration for his trailer. Ten hour round trip wasted for that guy.

You can probably get out of there if you deflate to 30psi. Looks like you're at like 80psi.
Also, your sig says you have a wrecker. You can't get it out with the M936A2?

You will appreciate 4 batteries if you live up north and try starting your 939 in sub freezing temperatures, even WITH ether.
You will appreciate 2 batteries when you leave the accessory switch on and have to charge your dead batteries, especially if your charge doesn't reach the truck and...
Slight correction... HMX-1 is the name of the squadron. It is the only squadron of it's type, there is no HMX-2 etc. HMX-1 is located at Quantico, VA on Bauer Rd going towards the brig, OCS and the Quantico Museum.

Some guys buy rattle cans, I prefer a paint sprayer. Either way will work.
Obviously for a trailer that you'll use to haul wood, you're not looking for a car show paint job. You'd be fine with a cheap paint sprayer. You can get cheap sprayers from HF that run off air, or something like the...
For years everybody complained and whined about GL. We used to compete against each other and scrappers when bidding. Now we are competing against people who know nothing about these trucks and have deep pockets or people who can export them and make 4x's what we would pay for a toy. Our...
Jeff,
Lot's of guys here have had success without spending a ton of money. I painted an entire deuce like this:
1) Pressure wash
2) Wire wheel rust and loose paint
3) pressure wash
4) Prime (rustoleum rusty metal primer)
5) Paint
You can even use Behr Home Premium exterior flat latex...
I have an M931A2 RRAD overhauled in 2012. It went right from RRAD to auction and I even got the RRAD paperwork on the floor of the truck and CARC overspray on the treads of the tires. I'm not impressed and the truck has had problems since day 1. Most are minor, but don't expect a "like new"...
