    1984 5 ton m923

Not that it answers your question about if your knock is bad (video it and post it) I can say the coconut noise description is very apt. My 925 is MUCH louder in the cab than the 923 was and it is that dang nut noise. Very disconcerting but they tell me it is normal. If you ever find a...

Old Faithful? Pressure in the crankcase.

In the morning before I started it I checked the oil and it was a gallon overfull. Coolant in the oil. When it cooled down either the leak opened up or without the motor running the compression couldn't keep the water out. Must be a liner or head. Still not sure if the crank pressure is part...

Old Faithful? Pressure in the crankcase.

The amount is so great that at this point I wouldn't want it putting that much water vapor into the intake but maybe pipe it down on to the ground. It seems like so much... the only thing I can think of is a compressor leaking back into the block but I didn't think they shared a connection...

Old Faithful? Pressure in the crankcase.

Took the 923 out for a drive tonight, first time it had been driven (some idling and moving it around the yard but nothing on the road) since late fall. About 5 miles out while climbing a hill it lost all power and started stumbling and knocking, like a fuel knock. I was sure it was going to...

Making yourown silicone gaskets and o-rings for the 5ton

"Although a bit more pricey, I wonder if HDPE or other plastic instead of particle board would eliminate the need for the glue and wax?" I am sure you are right. I think just using real MDF (like I mistakenly identified this crap in the video as MDF) that would help. I would use the wax...

Making yourown silicone gaskets and o-rings for the 5ton

I bet you could, can they print in rubber or silicone? I just wanted something thicker and wider. Ken

Making yourown silicone gaskets and o-rings for the 5ton

I started this in part because I am both curious and stubborn with a firm belief that given enough study, experience and testing I can figure out how to accomplish most anything. I was having an issue with a rim. It was rusted and had some pits but overall I kept feeling that the real reason I...

    Wheel chocks?

In our tour truck a 923 I had my young son try and climb over and out my door and he pushed the parking brake off in the attempt. Ironically I had just jumped out to chock the wheels. I was right at the door and heard the system hiss and was able to jump back in and set it but the truck moved...

Was Stuck in M923A2, learned many lessons

It is funny sometimes how much they will go through and yet how little will stop them. Looking at the pictures and not being there that looks like a fine place to turn around, I would have done it myself, likely with the same result. I bet the ground was still frozen permafrost style which is...

    M923a2 air compressor mystery

Glad you have it working, I think I might be doing much the same soon. About using the 1 inch impact of the front gladhand I found that there isn't nearly the volume of air needed to run mine. It might be the cheap gun but I think it is a line size and pressure issue. I mention only because...

    M915A1 Alternator - Transformer Meltdown

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Got it out of winter moth balls only to find the fan actuator was just blowing air to beat the band. Parked it for a few hours and when I fired it back up the fan had fixed itself. Very convenient. I hope to locate additional 'self repairing' components if I can. Ken

    m923a2 Tire Wear Question

I seem to remember a combination of road surface, weight, tire compound etc will creat a dominant tire, one that tracks true and the other is left scrubbing... just ever so slightly. On both of my 923A1 trucks that happens to be the passenger front. Out of curiosity have you checked the...

Need a source for the Air Chamber dust caps that cover hole used to cage brakes

In same vein, anyone have a favorite place for brake backing plate inspection plugs are are not made from tar and the hooves of dead horses? Been real hit or miss for me when I mail order, looking for something pliable. Ken

Best adhesive or adhering agent for weather stripping and door seals?

What I did with mine was remove the two screws at the bottom and top of the metal strip behind the weather stripping and then put them back screwing through the weather strip rubber. Two years later and what I thought would be a stop gap (get it?) measure is still holding strong. I got tired...
