Thanks everybody. 71DeuceAK I'm selling some of the stuff I know I won't need to give me money to work on the M108. Also to cut down on the amount of stuff in the yard.
Finally got the M35 torn down. Now it's time to join the old with the new. Well newer anyway. I found these clap pieces in the M35 while tearing it down. I think they are some kind of recovery hook up but it looks like something is missing.
Looks like both engines have the old style head gaskets. Not sure if I'll change them right now but I'll defiantly put it on the list for future projects.
Thanks for the info. I just checked and the yellow motor does not have a TD cast in the block but the motor in the M35 does. If both turbo will do the same job I would rather run the smaller one because I already have a brand new exhaust on the M35 that fits it. How do I tell which head gasket I...
I ran into a little dilemma. When I pulled the engine out of the M108 I didn't really pay it much attention. It's a multi fuel and it's got a big turbo same as the rest. But when looked at my M35 last night to get ready to pull the cab off I realized the turbo on the M108 is a monster compared...
I got the two upper beams that fell out replaced as of now. When I tear down the M35 it has bushings that are in decent shape so I'll change the rest of them after it's apart.
Here goes the how to for getting your nuts off (giggidy) with out removing anything. Depending on how the truck is sitting you might need to jack up the opposite axle to the nut you are trying to remove. It needs to go up high enough to get the U bolt from in front of the nut. I removed the...
The short answer is mad skills. The longer answer is I made a special tool to break the nut loose. I used a Napa 1/2 drive 1 7/16 shallow socket and it will just fit between the frame and upper walking beam. I wielded a piece of steel to the socket and put a porta power between the steel and...
Thanks. I don't think I'm going as far as you did. I'm going for a functional restore. I found my first real fun problem to fix. Both upper torque rods fell out when I was moving it. Like actually FELL out. I managed to get the end pieces out of the axle mounting points and one out of the frame...
If your talking about the Detroit 453 Turbo it might be small but it packs a punch. It specs out at 175HP, 280 Torque and the multi fuel specs out at 130HP, 330 Torque. It becomes a toss up as to do you want the Torque or the HP. The truck that engine was in got used off road only as far as I...
It would be a mountain of work but you could cut all the rivets holding to tandems in and put a piece of box tubing between the frame and tandem set up. I would use some thick box tubing like 3/8 or better. Wield the box tube closed on both ends and wield it to the frame and drill new holes and...
I just picked up an M108 a few weeks back and I just started the process of pulling it from death's icy grip. It had been sitting in the woods for a very long time so the body is pretty much shot. It has more rust than the Titanic. But as luck would have it I have an M35 that i bought a few...
Looks just like my M35a2 and M109 did when I found them. The M109 had been sitting for close to 20 years and with some batterys and fresh gas and file the points it fired right up. Same with the M35, batterys and away it went.
Wow I haven't got to put my deuce on the road yet but I figured I'd be getting GPM not MPG. To me 8 sounds like a good number for such a big vehicle with that big a motor and such low gears. My dad has an 84 chevy dually with a 454 that only gets around 8 loaded or unloaded.
