Yes, you need a switch because the converter is still drawing power from the batteries. Now its not much but after a long period of time along with weak batteries, it will drain them. I plan on adding a converter to my 923 but I plan on using the battery switch to power it. I plan on splicing...
From my own personal experience with MVs and the fact that I'm not very mechanically inclined, you souldn't be worried or intimidated. They are good to learn and tinker on. With the wealth of knowledge and help from here along with the TMs, you will do fine. The problem that you will run into...
It just depends as far as rebuild goes. I would prepare for the worse. Do a search on here because there are a lot of recovery threads along with lists of what you will need and what to expect. Like everyone has said, study the TMs, especially the -10.

Another Update! I was told that the final bill draft will be filed in the morning. Another step closer. If anyone has been missed in getting a copy of the final draft let me know and I will email it to you.
Soldier "B" and I replaced the leaking heater core with a replacement from Autozone. I did purchase and install some weatherstripping around where the heater core and damper are. I should get a good seal there. I also bought some new batteries since I have been using old suspect batteries.
