I just won a truck at Ft Lewis I just noticed the switch to engage the front end is missing from the dash. Does this mean that the front is always engaged and I just have to switch between high and low? It is a 1968 model

I have a 1028 (1986) that is wired like a 1010 ambulance. It has the 2 big 28 volt alts on it. Is there any reason that I cant take the wire that hooks to the top output shaft on the top alt and put it on the output of the bottom alt and get rid of the top alt.
