DOT 5 vs 5.1? What are you using?

When I bought my truck, I flushed the brake fluid. The previous owner didn't know what was in it and it looked pretty funky. So I used dot4 for the simple reason that I still have something like forty more quarts left of the stuff sealed.

smoke from steering column after new 2057 bulb in front right side

Before you replace parts in the column, or your headlight switch, remove and clean the grounds for the headlight, the dash, and the cab to block. If you have something back feeding electrically, it might burn out your new parts as well. Don't discount the sniff test for finding burnt up...

    M1028 charging problem

Perhaps its something so simple as a short in the positive wire between the alternator and the battery causing the fuse to blow. The regulator thinks the battery is at zero volts all of a sudden and maxes itself out trying to charge.

    M1028 charging problem

This may sound weird, but you could heat up that one alternator with a hair dryer good and hot, and start it to see if when the alternator is hot the voltage regulation fails in some way. This of course isnt going to help your fuse blowing situation though.

headlight and horn, M1009 advice needed

You don't have to take the manifold off to replace that hose if your clamps are reachable with screwdrivers or pliers or whatever. I didn't have to remove mine. But buy the best fuel rating you can find for fuel hose so you dont have to do it again. I used 30r9 rated hose. At least don't put...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

As long as you hook it up to the positive and negative of the same battery, the charger will only charge that battery. You don't have to disconnect anything.

    M1008 brake lines

I would expect to flush it once and not be happy with how clean the fluid is. When I did my flush, it never did get all that clean. Run it a week or two depending on how much it's driven, then do it again once the system has been used and shaken with the new fluid in it. More stuff will come...

    Vacuum pump/late shifting M1009

That hella pump on summit keeps a steady 15 pounds of vacuum. A good original keeps 24, so there would probably have to be adjustment done to the regulator and/or modulator if someone were to put one in in place of the original vacuum pump.

    Vacuum pump/late shifting M1009

I just ran this test yesterday on my m1028. I got a solid 24 pounds of vacuum at idle with no fluctuation or bouncing. I'm in the opposite camp as you. I don't have a vacuum regulator on my injection pump, so my trans gets full vacuum all the time, and shifts way early and soft. In addition...

headlight and horn, M1009 advice needed

I'd recommend reading these three threads about the headlights and fuses blowing in the headlight circuit. They are a good source on the issues you are having. On the idle surging, it sounds like you have a fuel leak getting air into the fuel filter since you found fuel leaking before. Is it the...

    What are you guys paying?

I paid 5500 for my 1028 with 25k on it. It had two new tires, and two about half tread. Really not much wrong with it. I did have to repair some janky wiring, and its got an injection pump off of a vehicle with a throttle position sensor instead of the vacuum regulator, but other than that, its...

    Click, No Start M1009

If someone brought a car in our shop that did like yours did at the 19 second mark in the video, I'd probably put a starter in it after checking the wiring. Test the resistance of the starter battery cable from the battery to the starter in case you might have a bad connection. Might as well...

    What now?? Fuel pump?

If it's original fuel line, I'd say just replace it while you're in there. You can pinch it off with special pliers, but you never know if you are damaging it internally on hose that old. You can just jam a permanent marker, or spark plug in it like we do at work for random fuel lines...

Factory style floor covering. Who's the best?

I'm putting down Herculiner once I get around to redoing my floor. My mat is all torn up, and the floor is rusting under the pad in places. I used a 20 dollar off over 75 dollar purchase on a gallon of the stuff at Autozone.

    GM 10 bolt....

Describe what exactly went wrong first. I'm not personally familiar with the axle but you'll get a better opinion if we can see what it would be to fix.

Ignition switch (actual switch not cylinder) wiring...

My question is, Are you getting 12v anywhere on the truck, or just 24v everywhere? Check to see if the diagrams you are using are the same as the diagrams from the TM The first one is the starting circuit, the second one is one I made from the two cab circuits. Having one page is easier than...

Steering Column - HA!, how hard can it be?

Its not too hard to do, really. If you don't have a metal fish tape, I would tie a shoestring to the old connector and pull the new one in with it after you pull the old one through. Lining up the connector long ways parallel to the shaft makes it easier to slip through. Check and tighten the...

    Electrical wiz needed

Just from a look at the wiring diagram, it looks like if you plug it into the yel-508 wire at the original wiring, it should at least trigger the water in fuel light. There is a tan wire and a white wire, but it looks like the yellow is on the ground side? I don't know what goes on electrically...
