Thanks for the response... I read the TM, I read most if not all of the posts on the subject... it still is not clear to me... maybe I am not the brightest bulb, but I was always taught to not be afraid to ask... the way I look at it is that the actual pull by the final strand is what it is...
OK, I did a little research and almost understand how you can multiply the capacity of a winch by using snatch blocks. I can make the connection between the multiplication of load capacity by the number of snatch blocks, but I am still in awe about how that final strand of cable ... or initial...
I always thought that you place the fused load as close to the battery as possible if not right on it. The battery actually then acts as a voltage regulator/dampner of spikes of sorts from the rest of the truck. That way if the accessory causes a voltage drop, the alternator/regulator can...
These are threaded lugs. I put closed end wire connectors with holes just big enough to slip over the stud. I try to use at least 12 ga. wire. you can also attach several power outs from the "breaker" side of the breaker as long as they do not exceed the breaker capacity. working with 24...
On my deuce (fire truck) there is a series of breakers that are in front of the gear shift lever on the fire wall (cabin side) there are at least 2 unused that are full time 24v (THAT i CAN RECALL) Either one will work, specially if you feed it through the 20A breaker. That is where I am...
Engine5 thank you for the compliment!!! She is a sweetheart... Right now I have a friend that has a powder coating shop doing the front bumper, winch and some of the siren stuff in black. Funny, she is a handful and a half to drive with her tank full, but after it is all said and done, you...
here are some... the lights and sirens were removed for rust removal and paint touch-up... should be all together soon though... will post when complete
Oh yeah... I forgot... Winch also added...
Been working on getting my deuce and a half fire truck functional, and that means running reliably, shooting water like it should and of course, sirens and lights doing their thing! Now a neighbor tells me that he remembers seeing a model (don't know the scale) somebody made of this truck. Of...
Hi Mike and thank you for your help and patience. I have downloaded their manuals and specs but I cannot see if the neg of the input can be physically linked to the negative of the output. Since most of the items I want to power 12 v or 24 share the ground, I don't know if the Vitors allow...
INteresting... I specially like the "waterproof" part. I am concerned about heat dissipation in their web page Vicor displays heat sinks and fins... I also could not see anything about load sharing... Mike I would like to see a basic diagram of what you have in mind... my electronics knowledge...
Hello:
I have 24V to 12V converters that put out 13.5 amps continuously. I would like to know if these converters can be run in parallel to increase the output capacity. Maybe 2 or 3 of the units side by side powering a high amp draw such as a light bar or maybe even an electrical winch. I have...
Thank you for the information... I guess my ignorance in terminology is showing. I will now do a search for 5 Ton sprag and maybe quit before I get nauseated. Either way, unless the proper terms are used, the search will come up empty. I again thank you for the guidance.
Asked in a response to different thread about the engagement of 6wd in an 818 tractor. The reply was via poppet valves that activate between the forward and reverse gears and how we must be careful about going direct into second from reverse, etc. I do not want to hi-jack that thread, so here...
I too am curious of the engagement method for the front diff. I know about the deuce's switch, but cannot find anything similar to that in the 5 ton 818. I do hear like an air switch going off when I shift into reverse. Is this working on the 6x6? Read the manuals and cannot get to the part...
Wow! that answers a lot of questions!!! I have read the TM numerous times and often wondered if any of our military personnel ever actually read them and if they did, did they understand it... because I sure did not. Thank you
Thank you for the help. Found them. Now back to my question. If I do not know which manual number applies to my needs, is there a search engine that directs me to the specific manual number or I just use a general search and scan down to see what fits? Also, I see where there are several...
Been there and done that... I must be missing something because I cannot find a search function in there and I have a hard time seeing the white letters on a light beige background. Not anybody's problem but my own... guess my eyes ain't what they used to be. (but then... nothing really is, is...
I have a Deuce fire truck and an XM818 5 ton tractor. I have needed manuals for both and have done searches for them. I was not able to find them. As far as the deuce goes. helpful members came to my rescue. As for the 5 ton, I have not sought help, but I need them. I believe I am doing...
