While I have the heads off, I think I might lap the valves also. It couldn't hurt. I looked in the TM to see if there was any intake and exhaust seals... but it looks like there are not any? If the valve guides are worn, I might put new guides in the heads as well. Has anybody ever done that before?
It has been hot a couple times when I had the winter front cover on and forgot to open it, but that was only about 225 degrees or so. It is toasty but not to the point where I would think the rings would weaken. It makes sense though if it takes the temper out of the rings... possible! Do you...
Did this wrench work well for you? I am going to put new rings in my deuce sometime soon and am looking for a cylinder head wrench. What Model Proto is that? Thank you.
I am going to Findlay so if anybody has any related items that I may need when I change my piston rings, let me know. I would be looking to buy/borrow a quality cylinder head wrench as well.
I am looking to buy/borrow a multifuel cylinder head wrench if anybody has one. I am putting new piston rings in my multifuel sometime soon and would like to locate a wrench if I could. I could ship it back after I use it or buy one that somebody no longer needs.
Well, I think I have been trying to fight off he realization that I need new piston rings in my M35A2. I have some blow by and it never liked starting when it was cold out. I had the cylinder heads off once before just to put new gaskets on and there was hardly any ridge on the cylinders. The...
I am looking for a set of piston rings for my LDT-456, latest and greatest head gaskets and an oil pan gasket. I need to re-ring the engine to get my blow by problem fixed. I have (4) 11.00-20's mounted on 5 Ton rims if anybody wants to trade me for some of these items. Here are the tires. They...
I don't shut off my valves in the summer time. I do though have a cable operated valve that is inline (that I installed on my deuce) on the hose that is designed to not completely close. The reason for this is so that the coolant still flows through the core to keep the core in good condition...
I did not. I still have it even though it should be tossed.... but I couldn't be happier with the performance. Like any typical diesel, it takes a little while to warm up, but it goes to 180 and then just stops. Its beautiful! :D
I just wanted to post an update to this thread. I bought the thermostat from Napa and I might have kept it for 3 years or so before I actually put it in. Anyway, 74M35A2 and I put the thermostat in and like we talked about in this thread, it never warmed up very well at all, even with 50 or 60...
That is pretty much the same thing that I built except I used an old propane tank. It works great! Just like you said, let the oil settle and a lot of the sludge will go to the bottom, then drain that off. I love my system and it works very well!
If you found a gear drive starter that uses a Nippondenso motor, that would be a good quality unit. I have one in my hot rod for about 8 years and about 80,000 miles on it and it has worked great.
It wasn't me! I crashed mine once and that was enough!

Looking at that gentleman's truck, I could have that fixed in a weekend. Mine took me 3.5 months to rebuild. Thank goodness everybody seems to be ok.

I am also looking for a cargo strap kit for a Deuce to do the jungle roll on the sides. These straps mount to the cargo bows and then attach to the cover. I wish I could find a picture of them, but I have not seen any lately. They would be similar to the straps attached directly to the cargo...
Does anybody have an alternator bracket for a Deuce? I am looking for the one that mounts the two ears of the alternator to the block.
I also have (4) 11.00-20 NDT Tires mounted on 5 ton rims. They all hold air and are about 50% tread anyway... some may be even better. I would have to measure...
I hope all works out for you. I have been in similar situations and thankfully have made out ok. Thats why I always like having a full tank of fuel, truck checked over and enough supplies in case stuff hits the fan. I also carry 3 snatch blocks (two single pulley ones and one double pulley for...
