FOUND THE PROBLEM
I had the lever ( something you don't have to remove when doing a o-ring job ) on the shaft clocked wrong. It was suppose to be set at 87° on the (splined) shaft and I had it at 93° ( I swear I have Deslexia aua ). I now had to turn the idle screw back up to where it was...
Yep
New everything including resurfaced flywheel., I took her out again ( sprayed a can of brake clean up there ) and it did not seem to slip as much but time will tell. TO bearing will spin by hand ( screwdriver ) with tranny in neutral and clutch pedal released so its definetely not making...
Nope did all those also
I am also noticing that she takes longer to idle down after reving her up or between shifting gears. I think I'm going to loosen the two screws that hold the fuel control shaft on a little more. I am also starting to think that maybe I reclocked the the lever on the...
Took my deuce out today after doing new O-rings in the HH ( and new rear seal, oil.filters, clutch, pressure plate, tranny....) and after coming back she now idles at 1050rpm's which is 250 more than it was doing before changing o-rings. I rechecked the plunger shaft ( while truck was running )and...
OK
Took her out for a run and the clutch slips like crazy in 4th and 5th, checked the throw out bearing and I can reach up with a screwdriver spin it so clearence is good as far as clutch pedal adjustment goes??? going to buy 2 cans of brake clean and spray it up in the housing and see if that...
OK
Tranny is in, I did have to reclock the arm on the shaft spline, it was not that hard to do ( less than 6 swear words ) being when everything was out I pulled the shaft and arm and cleaned up and oiled them and reassembled loosely so it wasn't that bad to remove and rotate it a few...
Yes there is a air of permanence with this setup, When I first bought my deuce it had a bungee cord hook to the lever and it would still pop out of high when crusing down the road so I installed this setup until I could find a better TC. I have since changed out that TC and its worn out gears...
What I think I need to reclarify is that I was hoping to reset ( preset ) the shaft rod while I had the tranyy out. What I think I might do is put the old 4 finger back on the ( resurfaced ) PP ( along with new clutch plate ) and measure from the pp to the end height of the fingers then put the...
Good point about measuring from the plate to the fingers, I'll check that on both tomorrow.
I guess I won't really know until its all bolted up., I should have measured finger height on the old one before I took it off the flywheel then compared it to the ( bolted up ) new one..Dang I hate...
Its 3.25" ( aprox ) from the hole in the lever to the tranny flange.,
I got the new 3 finger pp today and measured the overall height/depth of the pressure plate, the 3 finger is about 3 1/2" to the end of the fingers ( yes I took out the wedges ) and the old 4 finger is about 3 3/8" so I'm...
Guys
I'm replacing my old 4 finger PP with a 3 finger one and my question is ( for any of you that have done this ) was there any difference in the throw, I thought I read somewhere that someone had to reset the shaft rod position on the spline ( see pic ) to make up the extra slack being there...
To add to this thread
I just finished my o-ring (3) replacement on my head
I could not tell if I had the pin on the end of the shaft engaged into the plunger in the head so I went to the manual ( go figure ) which by the way is TM9-2910-226-34., If you remove the overflow valve ( see pic )...
Yes as mentioned its the split rivets for the fender welting.
I used wide head aluminum pop rivets instead, the old split rivets had small heads and would eventually pull through the welting, no chance of that happening with the wide head pop rivets.
