Wasn't to long ago there were a bunch that auctioned off GL. Would think some would be for sale. Now at what price would be the question. Maybe check with Eastern, TNJMurray or White Owl. Maybe one of them scooped up a few.
I think you hit the nail on the head right there. I would like to pickup another 003a but with the current prices $1200+ it won't be anytime soon. I'm just thrifty (read cheap).
You do raise a very valid safety issue. Especially with the unknown mechanical status of items like detentes, shift rails and worn fork assemblies. Looks like a good time to put aside an old practice. Safety should be number 1.
I will concede that was the main reason that I never owned a personal vehicle with a manual, until the deuce. After spending all day doing that the last thing I wanted to see when I got in my pickup was a shifter.
