Started fresh. Pulled the 454 and had it board out to a 468. Rebuilt with new higher comp pistons and cam. New everything. Got it all installed and working on exhaust now. The truck is running but I want you to see the pic of the engine and how it fits in. You can't see anything with it all put...
And everyone asked why I didn't like the old diesel and swapped it for a chevy 454 gasser. Answer I did about the same thing as the list above and still had issues that were never going to end.
I know, 454 is not a gas saver for sure. I really think its worth the fuel cost. That would be the biggest draw back I suppose. But gosh, this thing is a beast. Mean and feisty. Also, all repairs a so much cheeper than any diesel stuff.
The 454 puts out a lot more power than I thought. If I did...
HOLY S&*T!!!
Just got back from the first good drive. AND WOW. Thats some real POWER. I can't believe the difference in torque. You could easy bust a differential or something. If I was 20 years old again I would need a second set of tires within the week.
I had to make a few mods to the...
I did a lot of research on other engines. Considering fuel cost don't really play a part and the price of a 454 (free if I scrap the RV it came out of) and future repairs... It all came down to a 350 or 454 gasser. There was no way I was going threw all this work and then be under powered. So it...
IT's all about the $$$. My swap will be under $2k complete. Also, there is NO fabrication of mounts or conversions plates or adjusting the lift yada yada yada. Plus, I always love an old 454

Getting close to completing my 454 BIG BLOCK swap. This was so much easier that I could have every thought. I really think y'all would love to have this kind of power. Fun stuff.

We are having the first annual Sand Lake Camp Out on June 2nd - June 5th.
You can expect to see Military Humvees and other military vehicles on site. We are very happy to show off our trucks and answer questions.
This will be kind of a car show but camping out. Should be lots...

I have put many posts about getting guys together. There has to be more guys than the 7 I know. Let us know who you are. We have had 1 group meeting so far and many more to come. We are planning a Sand Lake trip and BBQ. Let me know and send me pics for the website. www.NWHMMWV.com
Thanks
Dave
We need to rally or at lease get together to discuss a club or something. I know there has to be more than the 4 guys I know in Oregon/Washington. If I can get an email list together then I will coordinate an event. Simply rely with your email and what you have. I will do the rest.
Kinda finished my 4 man conversion from the troop carry. A bit of advice for someone who is trying to piece the conversion together.... Just buy the complete kit. You will spend just as much parting it together and its take much longer. Anyhow, one of these days I will get some X doors to go...
I had to find each part from different people. I found most stuff from posting a wanted add in the classifieds here on SS. HAWKMAN and aghumvee are 2 guys on here that are great for parts and send stuff out fast. Easter Surplus is great but over priced.
One of these days I will get a set of X doors and maybe a hard top. Not a fan of the extra weight but I was just reading that these trucks like to have 1500LBS in the rear for the best performance. Not sure if thats right but its from a "Into to the HMMWV" from 1989, made by the US ARMY.
I want to get out and go up Mt Hood with some other HMMWV's. I've gone up 3 weekends in a row and Im always surrounded by jeeps and Toyotas ( my friends included ). It would be nice to rally with some Humvee people.
Let me know.
Weekends any time.
Dave
Went for the first drive in the new crew cab with the bed on. Lot less bouncing with the extra LBS. Did an oil change and flushed the rear ends and replaced with new gear oil. Lots of looks today driving through the city.
OH YEAH,... I HATE THE SPRAG GEAR T-Case. Is there a simple solution to...
