Not sure if anyone would be interested in attending, but this is a military vehicle (a rather LARGE one)...
Every year the USS Torsk SS-423 Submarine museum in Baltimore MD has a work weekend to perform regular maintenance on the boat, and install new parts for the boat's restoration. Lots...
Does anyone know if there is a NAPA part number for the U-bolts that attach the springs to the axle on the M416 trailer?
If not, I need the correct size for them to get them made up ASAP. Also, will need the Ubolts that attach the front frame rails to the bed (these are square U-bolts).
Want to save some more green iron pieces and misc. stuff laying around his yard. Anyone want to meet up there? If not, anything you need me to pick up?
I know formernewmvguy needs me to pick up a couple 6-ton jackstands, that's the only items I know of as of now I need to snag for people....
I can't remember the model - there are a couple of them, one is built on a M54-series chassis and another the M809 series. They are gull-wing shop trucks, loaded with a pile of machinery, lathes, drill presses, etc. in the back, designed to be a mobile mechanics and machinist shop on wheels...
Project for next year is to build and design a S-280 radio shelter that would be my ham shack, that could be a semi-permanent emplacement here, but could also be mounted in the future to a M923/5 series truck for bringing to shows so I could run my ham gear on site. It will also be a camper...
There is a story on a fullsize Moab offroad expedition in the newest Four Wheeler magazine. In addition to a really nice M37 with a maintenance body, it shows a full size M715 with a bobbed bed, the caption mentions it will be the subject of a future feature article detailing the build.

Here's a theoretical for you. You're building a camping trailer, one you can take to rallies and everything you need for your trip and to stay comfortable and fed should fit in this trailer. Doesn't matter what the trailer is, M101, M105, M416, civvy trailer - doesn't matter.
Question is...
While at Coleman's today, in the back lot, there are a bunch of "clothing repair" trailer inserts, most are stacked up like cordwood but a couple were dropped into M101 trailers. They were rectangular inserts that had plenty of doors and storage compartments, you open them up and there are...
Anyone see this? Upgraded suspension package called the TAK-4 that Oshkosh is fitting to Marine Corps HMMWVs recently. Not sure if this kit is available surplus yet, but it sure looks tough!
Picture: stock HMMWV on left, HMMWV with TAK-4 suspension on right.
Once again I am planning an epic trip to Coleman's Surplus with joediveguy next week (7/9 to 7/13 sometime). It's not a vehicle salvage yard, though there are a few hulks around and piles of trailers, and TONS and TONS of scrap with neat parts mixed in that might be of use to you guys.
Was...
Got a call the other day from a buddy I know who bought a whole lot of military pickups, most of them CUCVs. There was one lone M715 in there, and after talking with him, he's going to save it for me until I can buy it to turn it into an offroad trail truck. Solid body, no engine, typical...
Just wanted to say "thanks!" to patracy, you're doing a great job with the maintenance and upkeep of the site. Whenever something goes wrong, you're right on the job, and site improvements are coming along regularly. Just wanted to say that we all appreciate everything you're doing, you work...
westbound I-70 serial to Haspin 2012
Is anyone going to the Haspin rally in June along the I-70 corridor that would like to convoy in together? Safety in numbers, hate to see someone broke down on the side of the road by themselves. Look to start the serial around Berkeley Springs, WV on I-70...
Well, it's that time again! Time to gather all the folks in the surrounding area for the 4th annual Graves Mountain rally in scenic Syria, VA! For those not familiar with where it is, Syria is about 75 miles SW of Washington, D.C. in the mountains of Madison County, VA.
There has been a lot...
Thought someone would have posted this by now. For those into online gaming, the Call of Duty game Modern Warfare: Black Ops which came out in late 2010, has a level that takes place in a raid on the Hanoi Hilton in the late 1960s. In it are several 5-ton vehicles, one of which is the EoD. It...
I know, I know. It's WAY too early to start talking about it. Just suffering from post-Aberdeen depression, wishing I got more time to cruise around the show and see more things. Every show is the same for me in one respect - I never get a really good chance to leave my spot and tour around...
Had to go up to HAWKMAN's place today to pick up a couple pallet loads of military manuals that I am going to be scanning and/or pawning off. He is a great guy, was able to give me a tour of the place, load me up with a forklift and was all-around very helpful in making the deal work out with a...
Does anyone have any close-up detail pics of the armor panels that were used on the early gun trucks? They measured 36x48 inches in size, had a "porthole" in the middle, and a bunch of bolt holes in pairs around the outside edge. How were the porthole and the pairs of bolt holes to be used...
