A review of the polyurethane bushing replacements / upgrade for FMTV sway bars

Just wanted to do a quick review of the FMTV/MTV sway bar bushing upgrades available from Awesomeness/ Guido. The install was fairly easy on my M1088. One large bolt on the passenger side gave me grief, so I cut it off. There are essentially 3 pieces that need to line up, so it would be best to...

    5 lights a flashing on CTIS-Interesting

I've never seen my m1088 transmission cooler fans come on

Anyone with an M1088 see their trans cooler fans come on? I don't tow, so maybe the temp has not gone up enough to trigger. Radiator gets hot. Maybe needs new relay or thermostat?

A warning to those doing the A/C conversion

For bolts that hold the pulleys and damper on, only use a very light torque. Maybe 20ish ft lbs. I'm actually still looking for the exact figure. I had to Helicoil them. Also avoid JB Weld blue thread locker. It never seems to cure. Otherwise, JB Weld I found is generally awesome stuff.

Think that radiator is aluminum? Think again

Today I used a radiator cleaner to clean it. As I cleaned it it become apparent that what I thought was aluminum, was copper/brass. Why this design? It lasts A LOT longer than aluminum.

How to add a liter of displacement to your CAT for about $170

This was a very interesting video. They looked at how turbo blankets impacted the power output of an engine. Beware of cheap, fake "blankys" on net. Go with something like a PTP. I believe there are a number of different turbos, including borg-warners, 225hp, 275hp, 290hp etc. Guess we will...

Air brake connections- Teflon paste or Teflon tape?

What is the DOT standard for NPT connections on air brake systems? Teflon paste or Teflon tape or either?

Do the fit up off the HF 18000# industrial winch

Doing the fit up of the Harbor Freight 18K winch. So far so good. Mistakes were made, but nothing I can't fix. Long plate will get cut off. Wanted to maintain attack angle of front by placing winch higher. Wanted winch tucked in grill for better physics and appearance. Will add cooling intakes...

Curious about best apparatus to put in 3.07 middle gears

Hi Guys, Well the axles went in for balancing yesterday. Tiger Tool helped a lot. If you use one you must take the zerks out first. They get destroyed. I need to drop in the 3.07 gears. Just curious about using a gantry and chain hoist vs. engine hoist vs? I am putting in a locker at the time...

Which design is better for the non-rock climber as an Overlanding Vehicle, the 4x4 or 6x6? An expert weighed in

FYI According to the owner of Unicat, based in Germany, the 6x6 is generally the preferred design. He went so far as to say that many 4x4 vehicles when fully loaded with the camper and supplies are over the weight design of the truck. If you have not seen these live videos, it is worth a look...

Got driveshafts balanced yet? Otherwise, it's like a grenade ready to go off at any time.

I have seen pictures of cracked bell housing, broken alternator brackets, cracked water pumps, and air compressors and gears damaged. In my case the interface of the compressor and power steering pump opened up due to a loose bolt. Those pesky driveshafts need balancing. It's not worth driving...

FYI: Rotation of rubber connector inside 12 pin trailer cord caused short

Be aware that these rubber female and male connectors can rotate inside the barrel of the rubber casing. In my case, the 20 degree rotation caused a strong short with melting of a pin. I would use a permanent marker of some sort to mark where the edge of the rubber and metal barrel should...
