I've been talking with the guys at Bendix about replacing the air compressor with something that puts out a bit more air. I found a Midland part number someone posted on here as: MS-51322-1, but a cross-reference search on Haldex doesn't turn up any results. Is that the right part number? I...
When I was at Brad's place up in WA, I told him that I wanted to get some gladhands and brackets off a 5-ton to put on the front of Mah Deuce (so that it would be set up to tow behind another vehicle). Brad did me one better an sent me home with a 5-ton air-pack. He told me that it's got a...
As suggested, here's a new thread about flipping the center-section in riveted wheels. I'm only figuring it out as I go, so I'm not intending to make this any kind of 'how-to' post. But I know that others have done this, and I'm hoping that they'll post-up with tips, pictures, and any other...
Is anyone heading south? There's a generator trailer (like a flatbed M105) in McKenna that I want to buy, but I can't justify making another trip all the way up there just to get it. I'm in the bay area (right off 101 about a 1/2hr south of San Jose), but wouldn't mind driving to meet-up with...
towbar mounts (storage)
I've got a medium towbar that I plan on carrying somewhere on my M109. It's singled-out and I'm thinking that I'll probably mount it on the outside of one of the framerails, towards the rear of the vehicle. I'm betting that most of you guys carry them in the bed, but I'd...
I'm planning on using one of these as a remote reservoir for brake fluid, and that got me thinking about adding an expansion/recovery tank to the coolant system. I would like to use another reservoir from Canton, but I'm wondering how big of a reservoir I might need. I guess what I'm asking is...
I'm in the middle of swapping an air-shift transfer-case into Mah Deuce right now, and I just went down to Fastenal to buy some new 1/2" x 20TPI lock-nuts for all the transfer-case mounts and the driveshafts. $2.50 each!?! Wow. Where are you guys buying these, and how much are you paying for...
I found an LDS (new/rebuilt, still in the crate) and I'm making plans right now to go pick it up. The LDT in Mah Deuce runs really strong, but I'm REALLY excited to swap-in a fresh LDS. I've read everything I can find about swapping the LDS into an LDT-equipped deuce, and it all looks pretty...
My sprag case blew-up a while ago, and M715 hooked me up with a great deal on an air-shift transfercase with a PTO unit. So now I'm finally getting around to swap and I've got a few questions.
I've already dropped the old case, and that went really smoothly, but is there anything I can check...
I'd like to talk about tow-dollies. Thinking that I might want to turn my M353 trailer into a tow-dolly, like Canislupus suggested. I searched for 'tow dolly' and 'tow dollies' but I'm not finding much of anything. Anybody care to share pics or info about converting an M353 trailer into a...
Anybody know anything about it? Is it fiberglass? Dimensions?
I'm thinking about downsizing, replacing the uhaul trailer that I built out of an M353 trailer with something a little bit smaller. The top on this M105 trailer looks a lot nicer than the metal tops I've seen, and it looks like the...
I know there's a 5-ton turbo that has an internal wastegate, but I've got a fresh D-series turbo that Ken ported for me and I just bought a fresh LDS engine (still in the crate), but that has a D-series turbo on it too. So let's talk about external wastegates and blow-off-valves. Anybody added...
I just replaced all the wheel cylinders in mah deuce, and I would like to switch from DOT 5 to DOT 4. I bought/built a pressure-bleeder and a gallon of DOT 4 brake fluid this morning, but I just read about DOT 4 and 5 fluid mixing and turning to jelly. I was planning on using the...
The guys at the radiator shop where I had my fuel tank cleaned/coated told me to use muriatic acid to clean all the small parts (fuel pump & fuel level sending unit). That worked great, except that those parts rusted immediately afterwards, and now they look much worse than they did before...
I've read through all of the old threads and understand that the fording kits were not meant to be permanently installed, but I would like to build a fording kit that I can leave hooked-up all the time. When it's time to get wet, I don't want to have to do anything more than install the...
I've been too busy/lazy until now to bother looking into it, but I'm curious. How does these multifuel engines actually work? Why are these engines able to run on all these different fuels?
I just got my new D-series turbo back from Ken, and I've got the turbo install gaskets, but I need those three gaskets for the flex-pipe that connects the turbo to the J-pipe. Are these parts that I can buy at a local parts store (like NAPA), or do I need to order them from an MV parts supplier?
In another thread, ken posted something about porting turbos,
...but he didn't elaborate on that. In all the searching I've done online, I've only een able to find advice about porting turbos that are specific to different vehicles; suggesting that what works for one application might not be...
