I used to do it all the time, every machine I ever bought for a thorough steam cleaning.
Stay a little bit away from the generator, alternator etc., but don't be overly worried.
When you're done you can blow it off with compressed air or a leaf blower.
I've even lightly washed inside the...
In addition to that data plate above, sometimes you may find a data plate from an engine rebuilder with the piston overbore, rod and main undersize engraved or stamped into the plate.
But most of the time if it's a Lister Petter data tag as shown above, those are usually standard sizes, unless...
If by chance you get it open and find a bigger problem I have pistons, rods and a couple used head cores ( good spare valves ) if you need other parts.
1247 hours is nothing on that engine. Barring any real physical damage I really don't think you will need the pistons bearings etc. Just some pushrods and top end gaskets. It's up to you but in my experience you will most likely not need the full rebuild kit.
I have no experience with Friday...
Ok, so here's the thing.... on that motor, after touching the rocker arm nuts you're supposed to tighten them and wait like 1/2 hour for the lifters to bleed down, otherwise they will hang open and hit the pistons slightly when you crank it AND bend the pushrods.
Good news is this motor has the...
Before you replace the cover I would use Deoxit5 contact cleaner ( think you already got some ) and thoroughly clean the main AC select switch. spray it on the small openings around where the contacts come out the sides, then vigorously exercise the switch, rinse and repeat! D o the AM/VM...
If no equipment is available, do you have a garage you could back into and set up a chain fall or come-along on a beam spanning a few roof trusses / rafters, or a decent tree branch outside you could back that Ram Dually ( I can tell ) under??
Pick it up and drive out from under it.
How does the motor sound when cranking? does it spin abnormally easy and smooth ( lack of compression pulses? )
The black goo leaking from the muffler joint indicates a fair amount of wet stacking has happened.
I've seen several 803's where the carbon buildup was causing the exhaust valve to not...
I'm not familiar with the original CARC paint, but I do have 40 years of experience painting both daily driver and show cars as well as heavy equipment and everything in between.
I would never use anything that is a single component ( No hardener ) nor would I use any type of house paint etc...
Hello, I am a volunteer at the New England wireless and steam museum in East Greenwich RI.
We have an excess amount of military radio equipment ( much from the WWII era ) in storage and we are looking to donate some of the excess / duplicate equipment to an enthusiast, club or another museum, to...
Also, I don't recall on the 002 /003 without looking but on the 802/803 if you look at the data plate, the ratings are at 4000' and 95F not sea level.
So an 803 data plate shows 10Kw at 4000' and 95F and 8.6Kw at 8000'
I'd imagine the 002 already has a similar operating condition already...
For me, I consider light loads to be around 25-30% or less.
"Extended periods of time" to me means a week+ of constant running at light load.
Don't think a few hours here and there will cause any damage and if you start to wet stack the machine a little, those periods of heavier load should...
Have you checked / serviced the coolant system ever? With the gage you have it will normally read a little high as L.I.T.D said, but 220 is a bit more than that gage should be reading.
If you are running it at a light load you may be fine now, but could run into issues if you have to run a long...
If the injector line was loose enough to juggle around, it was definitely disconnected. I have seen cases where you loosen the nut but the line is stuck to the injector and still sealing off the fuel , but that is not the case for you. If the line itself is not physically clogged there must be...
Go to the top of this forum, 2nd post down, It's got lots of good info about the metering pumps, tips to install and how to tell if you have a frozen metering pump. Hopefully your problem is as simple as a sticking pump lever, but obviously someone has already had the timing cover off, so you...
@Guyfang any thoughts on moving this post to the Generator forum? I suspect all the other generator Guru's haven't seen it...
I just happened to stumble across it myself.
Excellent News, glad you were able to dig deep and get to the bottom of this thing.
On the IR thermometer I usually try to hit the exhaust manifold as well as the side of the cylinder itself, but you need to be very cautious of the tricks that the blower wheel air motion can play on you!
Try to...
