New to you truck...... start at go..... eyeball in the tank...one way valves in the fuel lines.... fuel filter and housing.... if it then pumps the correct amount of fuel "past" the fuel filter (squirts don't count) time for a pump overhaul. PIA but you will be happier in the long run. My 2 cents.
WARNING... rant/pet peeve to follow...... If you haven't already opened up the fuel filter attention should be paid to any slim/algae/Diesel snot/microbes growing on the outside of the filter. If anything ugly is present a good cleaning of the fuel system is in order...... tank, lines, check...
I have a suspicion the algae growth has something to do with translucent nature of the tanks themselves. The fuel treatment has instructions for "shock treating" the fuel. This will kill the algae "in place" but leaves something akin to coffee grounds when it kills it. Once growing (slimy...
I think you will be surprised at how fast algae will grow in diesel fuel in these trucks. Over the course of my career I've purchased close to 3/4 of a million gallons of diesel and never had a bio problem until the HMMWV's came along. I dose every tank with POWER GUARD. Let us know what you...
When you get through with the pump I would suggest that you check the fuel system for BIO contamination. REMOVE and inspect the fuel filter, LOOK at the inside of the fuel tank for contamination that could stop up the sock on the fuel pickup. Just my 2 cents.
Let me add a PS. If you did not remove the fuel filter canister from the fire wall you should pay special attention to the cavity in the bottom of the filter housing where it accumulates water. This needs to be cleaned thoroughly. This housing can be a real PITA to replace, comes off pretty...
BAD NEWS........... you are not through...... if you have the square panel with 4 screws in the bed of the truck you need to remove the panel then the fuel sender (round thing with 5 or 6 screws 2 wires) and have a look inside the tank. If the bottom looks anything like your filter removal and...
I would be surprised if it was not a fuel issue. REMOVE the fuel filter from the truck and post pictures, bet it's ugly. The trans light is probably from low pressure from the engine not turning fast enough to keep up the trans pump pressure as it stalls. Algae grows in diesel fuel and if the...
Your local parts house could have provided the instal kit for this........ just take the joint with you. First time i've ever seen lock washers on a joint before........I'm positive someone else has though.
My two cents for what it's worth, Tractor Supply where I live sales a "shim" in the same size as the large brass washers. Cad plated I think, stocked with the 3 point hitch goodies, they work for me.
About what I found, no use on code for it. 1097 rebuilds in TX. 4L80e is one tuff box and the items to upgrade a 2000 and newer to 4L85e are available. THANKS
For anyone that is a little geospatially inclineed I would be happy to explain how to align their truck. You need a relatively level floor, a torpedo level with a laser, a digital inclinometer (decent ones are available pretty cheap), some square aluminum tubing to make 2 jigs, a couple...
This anti freeze is probably intended for the commercial type diesels with the wet liner. The anti cavitation is probably DCA that we added to regular antifreeze before the "long life" stuff came along. I know some one will correct me but i've never seen a "bored liner" engine that had to have...
