What have you done to your 10 ton this week?

What all did you do to the engine?

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

I design the data plates (size, shape, font, verbiage, etc.) and then I send the digital files to a data plate maker who produces them and ships them back. If you want to get some made send me a PM 🙂

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

I replaced one of my knuckle boots...what a pain. It may have been quicker to disassemble the king pins & everything & do it from the inside. The TM said the zipper material should be on the inside but these new ones must have been made backwards.

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

It ended up taking quite a bit longer than I wanted, but overall it was a fun project and it was the good kind of challenging.

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Brutacus, I'm glad you got your parts in good order and thank you for the kind words! That is quite the collection of lights I must say. At a casual glance it's hard to know all that went in to making those light brackets and there were many steps involved. For the aux. driving light brackets...

    Questions about M809 technical manuals

In regards to manuals printed in the early 70s versus the updated manuals from the mid-80s, what are the differences? Are the changes usually procedural or are they changes in parts/construction of the truck? Mostly interested in the -34 manuals. Also, is anyone familiar with a -35P manual?

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

I don't understand how vinyl can rust, but the inside top of my cover has a lot of rust spots. Maybe left over minerals from hard water is what is rusting? Metallics in the paint? No clue. Has anyone found an effective way to remove the rust? Like CLR or something?

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

You're right - there's really nothing to show for it externally. I'll have one less drip on the ground and I'll feel much more confident on longer trips. The whole RH side of the chassis was getting misted and splattered by the oil that escaped from the cracked knuckle boot on my longer trips...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

With my brother's help I finally decided to tackle the front inner axle seal that I knew was letting gear oil into the hub, wheel bearings, and knuckle boot. I'd been putting this repair off knowing how involved it could be and I made a contraption for removing the seal holder without the use...

    Previously tuned up 250?

Fire departments are known for turning up their engines as performance is more important than longevity for them. Do you know if it ever belonged to a fire department?

    M923A2 Cummins belts

I don't have any issues with belts rolling, but I've noticed that on my steering pump (NHC-250) what started out as a matched pair has become 1 tight belt and 1 loose belt and I bet a molded pair would stretch more evenly over time.

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

I tore into my left rear hub suspecting a leaky wheel cylinder and all I found was two stripped lug studs and a rolled lip on the inner hub seal. Whoever last torqued those nuts & thimbles (army most likely) must have laid on it with a 1" impact because they were on tight! Using impacts with...

    M923A2 Cummins belts

Speaking of belts, I've been thinking about going to a banded v-belt instead of a matched pair of singles when I replace my belts again. According to the marketing peoples they're supposed to be better but they could suck to install.

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

To circle back on this blow out i had awhile back, I found the hose on the water manifold to be fully plugged with solid rusty sludge for the 5" of hose closest to the surge tank. I'm thinking this has something to do with the pressure finding a messy way to relieve itself. This was the...

    New wheel stud too short?

Ok, I'm picking up what you're laying down. My calipers say the new studs match the parttarget.com nominal dimensions for what my NSN should be. The studs (and not just one) must have been replaced before my truck was CARC'd in 2001 because they're painted on the front but are still fresh...

    New wheel stud too short?

I got some replacement wheel studs (p/n 7409554) for the left rear axle of my M813 from Erik's Military and they're about 1/4" shorter than the originals. Other sites list this same p/n for both the front & rear but they look like maybe they're fronts only? Can I run 2 of the 10 studs 1/4" short?

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Wearing a hernia belt while wrestling with those maybe isn't a bad idea...I'll get there someday. The lugs look clean and crisp - are they new (100% tread) ?
