My Gen 1 belt give it up a few days ago. Read the wiki and went to NAPA and picked up a 15585 V-belt. It was about an inch too long. Brought it back and got a 15575. Fit perfectly, right in the middle of the adjustment window. Your results may vary.
All belts are new and I don't know how...
OK, driving back from Boston, some yutz cut me off and I went and used my horn for the first time. Well, it sound weak, real weak. My wife couldn't stop laughing it was so bad. She kept on nailing me with "big bad truck and you have a Prius horn on it". She was having a good time at my...
Changing my fluids tomorrow. Oil and filter for the engine and trans.
For the trans, is there anything else I should do while I'm in there? Everything is running ok for a 27 years old truck, but I figured enough folks have poked around these automatics to know what needs attention and what...
Just thought I would post about the mpg I got during my recent trip.
Truck is mechanically stock, with the exception of a set of BFG's in 32x11.50x15's, pumped up to 45 psi cold.
Covered 890 miles over 4 days, CT to MD and back again, with two days of running around in the burbs (stop and go)...
Does anyone know what the ORIGINAL Part Number was for the 1986 M1009 heater core. I have found someone who has a few NOS ones squirreled away, but the part numbers vary.
Thanks !
Anyone from this area that can recommend some decent salvage yards? I want to go looking for some seats, perhaps sliding side windows and various other parts.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
OK, for just the third time since I have owned her, I drove my 1009 over 350 miles, one way, at one time. Each and every time I have done this I have accumulate a fine coating of what appears to be transmission fluid on the rear of the truck. I have carefully monitored fluid levels and they...
OK, yes, I used the search function and I think I found what I was looking for, but just in case.....
I am trying to fabricate a harness that plugs into the mil spec trailer connector on the rear of my M1009 so I can just plug in my civi boat trailer when ever I want, but at the same time...
When I start my 09 up in the morning, when it is below 35-40, she blows a bit of smoke. Just for a second or so, and it is bluish/white. It also smells like unburnt fuel. Is this normal? Everything else seems to be working well.
Thanks.
Cash is tight and I am picking and choosing things needed for the truck, all the time looking for cost effective ideas/things to use as substitutes. Since I can't afford that sweet canvas winter cover for my 09, I took a page out of the VW TDI forum and did the following.
It may not be as...
if your stock th400 transmission was nearing it's end of life, what would you do? It would be turning a stock 6.2 and the only departure from stock is a set of 33's.
Would you take it to get rebuilt or swap it out with some other compatible transmission? What would be the cost difference...
Don't know if anyone else was having this issue or needed a fix, but I'll post mine just in case.
OK, I kept getting more and more water in my 09 every time it rained. This last deluge left me with quite the puddle on the floor in front of the rear seats. With the cold weather here it was...
My voltmeter works fine, I assume. However, when I have my lights on, after driving about 1/2 mile or so (or about 2-3 minutes), the lighting in the gage goes out and I can't see it in the dark. Is this normal ? All other lighting (except my reverse lights) work as they should.
Thanks.
Ok, it's not me. It is getting cold here in Conn on some mornings. When I first start out in the morning, leaving the parking space, I can hear the trans "whining" a bit. It only lasts for a few hundred yards. It also seems like the trans wants to hold second gear for longer than normal when...
Had a busted shock on my truck, and I figured while I was at the Hobby Shop on base changing out the shocks, I might as well go ahead and do the Doghead mod. the truck is a 1986 M1009. 67,000 on the odo. She is basically stock and fairly well maintained.
Went to NAPA and got the correct...
Money is tight, like that's a big secret !!!
Anyway, a few things have come up and left me a little "cash challenged" for a few weeks That said, I still need to do a few things to the 1009. I just did the Doghead mod, but I really need shocks.
I know there has been some discussion on this...
I was wondering if anyone has changed out, beefed up or augmented the stock 1009 heater system to provide a quicker defrost of the front windshield. My 1009 seems to warm up quicker than my TDI Golf (@ about 4-5 miles @ 45 mph the heat comes up), but not if I am idling waiting for the frost to...
I am going to post a "How To", step by step, with pictures and tool requirements, for this procedure, for us more mechanically challenged amongst us (including me). I didn't see anything like this when I did a search, so forgive me if it has already been done. It looks to be a relitively easy...
Decent ride, no hiccups and got very good mileage, which actually surprised me. Except for a lack of AC, it wasn't a bad ride. Some better seats and a stereo and I would be a very happy camper!!:p
I drove 65-70 the whole way and averaged 20.2 mpg. Truck is all stock, with no major...
