Doug,
Those pictures of your engine bay are better than my CUCV when I first got it! Attached pictures show what mine looked like at 25 years old and only 2,189 miles on it! Didn't have a chance to take a rag to it before the pictures and haven't taken one to it since except to check fluids.
Just a few pictures to keep my truck in the running. It looks like I'm lagging behind slightly but I think Scar59 is running a sprint! I'm an endurance runner! Left to right, General Non-Sense at the Thronateeska Heritage Center for Briggs Birthday party with the M1102. Next, helping a...
Tony,
Life gets busy sometimes and I didn't campaign at all last month. I won this contest back in May of 2015 with a CUCV. The little truck beat out a M1070 HET and some very worthy competition. Like the CUCV that spent time in a cave in Norway, my 5 ton has one thing going for it. My...
Scar59,
Thanks for the kind comment about my boys. I think Wreckers are cool as well. In the National Guard, I'm a Recovery Section Squad Leader. I've had quite a few Wreckers starting with a M936A2, M1089, M1089A1P2 and now a M984A4. My Squad currently has a M984A4, (2) M1089A1P2's and...
Competition is heating up a little. I shot the first volley and appreciate that you have fired back. Friendly word of caution though, I've been here before and will start tossing pictures of the boys in!
Ken,
Great work! I was wondering why the bed was set back so far. Now that I see it started as a tractor, I realize you had to leave room for the factory transmission cooler. I'm sure I'll get the see a closer view of the truck in October when we go to Durhamtown!
Already fighting for the lead!!! I'll tell you why I think my truck is worthy of your vote. He's lived a good life and has a very supportive family. He came to me from 4th Ranger Training Battalion on Ft. Benning, GA as a base model M923A0 that had never been to rebuild. Just basic...
Simple way to defuse this conversation. Remove the valve core from a tire if using heat sources near the rim. Reinstall the valve core and inflate the tire afterwards. Too easy, not much extra work and we'll all be working safely.
Getting close! I won't be walking around in pain this time, my left foot has healed as good as new and I passed the 2 mile run on my APFT with a 16:00 flat at 36 years of age last Saturday. I won't be bringing crutches in the 5 ton this time so that's personally a vast improvement over last...
I'm in Leesburg, north of Albany which you will find on the map around 90 miles NW from Valdosta. Simp will send you my contact info as he is a genius when it comes to networking but if you run into a tight spot, reach out and I'll help.
When you filled the front differential with oil, did you stick with the "one finger knuckle in" before you touch oil technique or fill until oil ran back out of the fill plug threads? If you did the latter, that's likely you're problem. Looking at your signature, you have this issue on an M809...
MSDA,
I'll let you know what my friend says about the air tanks. It's likely Yes but please let me confirm. The axle clamps belong to me if they are for 1" pins and the chains are decent. For that price it wouldn't matter if I never use them, just piece of mind if I have to pull something...
MSDA,
What size are the air tanks. Truck specific does not matter as I have a friend trying to add a small onboard air system for a 2500 Ram with a Cummins to supply pressure for an exhaust brake set-up.
Toby,
I only pointed out the "flipping" aspect because I think GP basically does the same thing you were doing minus titling. One thing they have going over the flippers is less risk in their business model. It they get a bum unit, no big deal. They'll sell it as a non-runner and not have...
GP has a fairly large site near where I work and I'm pretty good friends with the site manager. One thing I can say for sure is GP puts a little bit of effort into getting equipment running and somewhat operational prior to listing. They'll charge or put in new batteries, change fuel filters...
You won't need to change them back. Radials tend to search at the near zero caster angle that the bias plies are happy running with. The bias plies will be even happier running with some positive caster. One thing I recommend is run your truck after you put radials on. Mine was a handful on...
Please spell out the proper procedure. I have a friend spin the drum while I torque the 3" inner nut to 50 ft lbs. I then back off the inner nut 1/2 a turn, install the lockwasher and torque the outer to 150 lbs as outlined in the manual. I tend to go a little on the loose side for bearings...
