    Need Advice

A Deuce is like a Town Car compared to a 5 Ton. Unless one has a specific use for a bigger truck, a Deuce is adequate. Get the best one you can afford!

Suggestions on hard top rear window seal.

The seal is generic. When mounting glass, I learned to use tire grease to lube the seal first. About any glass man can make a pattern for you.

    M1082 Trailer Help/knowledge

Not familiar with that trailer but can't help thinking that its not setup with the standard military plugs & that it takes a standard Inter-vehicle pigtail. It should have one, but you can't tell.

    Rotating Pintle Hook Question....

Over the years, I made up several hitches for various occasions & trailers. One is a swivel that I use almost universally, especially with my M101A2. (Unfortunately, at this time, I can't upload the pictures of it). At times you can buy a swivel pintle from the bay. Its the same one they used...

    5ton Converter Dolly

I like air brakes & air brake problems but I throw my hands up on this thread. I'd strip all the old valves off the dolly. Save the various air hoses & fitting - you might find one you can re-use. You will need two air tanks with related check valves. A quick release valve, & a...

    Quiz on trailer tires

The old time "civi" International & Dodge 3/4 & 1 ton's used that wheel hole pattern, but mostly were found with the lock rings. Some one piece wheels did exist, as I once bought a "Binder" 3/4 ton with 16.5" tires. Mostly the 1 tons had duals.

Tongue weight of a m1061 Trailer

You should be fine. Better yet, if you make up a "3 point hitch" draw bar hitch with a 2x2" receiver that you can put a pintle hitch it (or any kind of hitch in), you will be able to drag around all kinds of trailers & such.

    Metal in Rear Axle?

One question I do have - Do you think that I could repair this third member in the future? Maybe some new bearings and it will be alright (for s spare). Will . You have to get it out & look at it. I once had an OTR truck with a similar problem, as the one you are describing & when I got...

I have the itch for the five ton

Welcome to the site! That being said, use extreme caution with the itch, as it is known to be highly contagious. Consult your local DMV about the CDL, or better yet, drop in at one of your DOT scales. But your probably right about the RV thing. Of course, hunting requires a proper set of...

    Wheel hub warm/hot

A 1/4 to 1/3 turn, back off, usually does it. Re-using bearings is OK too. When tightening, the hub should be turned as you keep tightening, even over-tight, to ensure that the tapered bearings/cup climbs up fully, on the tapered cone. Rotating the hub while tightening, is very important...

Help me add a manual fan override switch to my 5ton

All this has been worked out in intimate detail in OTR trucks. Any valve you can imagine, is available at the heavy truck shop, at modest prices. Some valves are controlled electrically, and they work flawlessly for hundreds of thousands of miles. I had an "ON/OFF" switch on the dash, because...

    Full time 6x6 question

What happens if the front tires are flat or have lower air pressure from the rear? This would change the tire diameter and cause binding in the system. Is this a problem on the trucks or does some component allow for this difference? Nothing happens as long as the tire is not...

Cleaning Surplus Wheels/Tires for an M923

That looks pretty bad - is there even room to run a die on them? It won't take many of that kind of studs, until the die won't be worth much either. Do you have to take them apart now? Maybe just run the tires out? It doesn't look like you have found the best source for studs yet.

The Long Trip Home, AZ to WA

I've used the local lumber yard. They will often have a dock. But they always have fork lifts! Just go out back and ask for the "yard Boss". If you have it rigged nice. They might just do it. Take pictures of what you need, to show them 1st. They will probably have a time that is best to...

    Broke down possible compressor failure

I was thinking that it was about $300. One time I lost a compressor on the ALCAN. But the problem was the lower end, and just the head was water cooled. I left the head on the hoses & swapped out the compressor. You should be able to change out the compressor, then quickly swap the hoses...

    Broke down possible compressor failure

An unloader can drive you nuts. Yes, you can probably get a kit for them, but your problems are a symptom. Do yourself a favor & swap out the compressor. Air, at its proper pressures & volumes, is a big deal on that vehicle. Its not safe, running it on band aids.

Buying a Deuce - Any hints?

Crawl under it - look inside the frame rails. If its been in the mud, it will be packed inside the rails where the brake lines & wiring are. As old as most of these trucks are, mud packed for years can cause corrorsian on the copper lines & fittings. See if its had any grease on the...
