Does anyone know how well the C7 Acert does at high altitude? Are there any limitations or common issues? I plan on taking it to the 'Stans where there are some of the highest roads on the planet. The truck is a 2007/2008 M1083A1R. Thanks!
Great information @TMOMW. I had no idea all that wastefulness from governmental stupidity was going on. Thanks for sharing. I learned a lot.

Interesting. That's completely illogical and makes zero sense, but that shouldn't surprise me. Thank you for the insight.

You mentioned "...stopping all donations and sales of former MVs..." including Stewart & Stevenson vehicles (i.e. M1083)? Still see those for auction on GP every week.

Right. Since the deal is done through the DLA, they issue the SF97. It's not the branch it came from. So why would the DLA make an SF97 with off road only use, and another with on road use, for the same truck?

I don't understand. Whether it's an army truck, USMC truck, etc. aren't they all disposed of through the DLA? It's the DLA that provides the SF97, not the branch where the unit came from. Am I missing something?

Haha! It was HUGE! I had to tiller the back of the fire truck while he towed it. Felt like it took 30 seconds to clear intersections!

Are you disconnecting it for towing purposes? Recently I had an experience at work. I'm a fireman and we had to get our tiller truck towed. Watching the heavy tow operator was a great learning experience. He DID have to disconnect the drive shaft on the fire truck to tow it. That's when I showed...
This is EXACTLY what I did with my Chevy truck and camper. However I did run outlets to each location and also created the extension cord so that I could connect other 12V tools and appliances from each outlet. The other reason I created the hitches on front and back for the winches is that it...
This is perfect. Exactly what I hoped for. Thanks for sharing.
You mentioned a link to the rest of your build. It wasn't in your comments. Would love to see your ideas.

Building a slide out? Mind if I ask how you're doing that? I'd like to do the same but don't know how to go about it.

You're the only person I've heard of who's owned both a WARN and Sherpa winch. What sizes were they and what were there differences?

Completely agree. Like I said, snatch blocks are great for reducing wear on the system but starting with the right size power plant to begin with, is essential. It is what it is no matter how many snatch blocks you use.

These trucks are too big for an 18000 pound limit. Yeah you can use pulleys, etc. for mechanical advantage, but you want to have an adequate power plant to begin with. Sherpa is 25000 pounds and actually engineered to exceed that.

Correct me if I'm wrong but because it's PTO you can not put the truck in gear while the winch is engaged. If so, it is a huge drawback. Winches are meant to assist recovery of the truck. Not being able to put your truck in gear during recovery is a huge problem.
