I grant Doghead the cup-o-joe reward as he gave a true measurement and mine was more of how it felt while working in it the other day. 8) (or should I saw forego the reward option to the true measurement...)

I don't have my M101 with me at the office, but it's really close to 4' clear. I doubt that I'd try to get into a regular camp chair while in the back, but am planning to use it for camping adventures from time to time as well.

I agree with some of the suggestions concerning the hobbling method. There are several lunette locks that will work in keeping it from being hooked up to easily.
The fire department I was with didn't have a buffalo, but the local mine did, we assisted with their calls and utilized that...
That is something you will have to coordinate with the GL site in question. I recently picked up 3 trailers by making several trips back and forth. They were willing to work with me on doing it. I setup a staging yard at a friends house about 5 miles away from the GL site. That made the...
I put one M105A2 on my 20' car hauler back in February. My hauler is 80" between fenders, 20' deck and the M105 tires were 76" outside to outside, so it was close when I went to roll it off. If you are going to load and unload with a forklift, they should fit without a problem as you can...
I've never seen backing plates look like that before. Probably never got stamped in the factory.
As mentioned earlier, cut off the two pins that hold on the brake shoes with a grinder or a punch. That should free it up. They look like little divits on the right and left hand side of the axle...
I will mark this one down as the first unit that doesn't have any access holes. Appreciate the information.
The idea about busting a hole in the drum to adjust would be the way to go since you plan to replace anyway. Good luck with the repair.
If you don't have an adjuster plug at the bottom of the backing plate, I'd continue to beat on the drum, or get out the blue wrench and cut it off.
I have yet to see a backing plate without the plug or access hole when dealing with drum brakes. Sometimes there is a punch out that you can...
I tried this with the first lunette and it didn't want to budge. Then I tried utilizing a couple of splitting wedges to add pressure before backing off the nut & whacking the lunette. Upon getting those tight, I found that I was busting out the welds and steel holding the landing gear bracket...
Yes, I will agree with you to a point. This link is for commercial rigs, not personally owned RV's (non-commercial) as stated by the first website link (Class D License). So the first link is not correct.
Those highways do not permit you access out of the state, only from Anchorage to...
Ok, it read that you were going to leave it like it was without flex testing, so I figured I'd ask the question. (I could have read it wrong too, had been a long day...)
Good luck with the remainder of the build, looks like a great project.
Unfortunately this site is severely outdated and has false information for several states. It hasn't been updated in at least 10 years as Alaska hasn't permitted triple trailers for at least that long.
Their footnote about it being gathered from third party sources is their saving grace since...
Dug,
The first M105A2 lunette flipped in 15 minutes, it was slick and that one came from Ft Richardson near salt water, the one above came from inland AK. I had read about the BFH tactic and heating it up. Another thread reported on utilizing a hydraulic jack, but there wasn't a picture to...
I know there are several threads about flipping a lunette. Most have great details, but here's how I have found to get it flipped in about 20 minutes without a torch, driving down a bumpy back road or beating the living tar out of it with a BFH. aua
Tools needed:
1-1/2" box wrench
Vise-grips...
Great fab work,
I'm not familiar with the deuce shaft length with the slip joint fully extended, but my question has to do with just that. What about when you are flexed during off road use, those shafts will travel some? Are you going to run out of room while having off road fun?
I've seen...
It has a similar setup to the Spade Leasing Corp M105A2 that I picked up last month.
Try running the NSN number through the GL website (original auction listing) and you may get lucky with other Identifying information. Just did this for one that I picked up 2 weeks ago as the plate was...
Also see what your state does for permanent plates. I know Michigan went that route for all their trailers, so you pay once, good for life. Alaska does it for commercially registered trailers only (has to be in a business name); otherwise it's about $15 per year (to 10000lbs).
Those bolts have been replaced. Do NOT look stock when compared to the two M105's I have in the yard. Looks like they replaced the axle with a straight axle. There's a few write ups about this conversion.
Contact the seller to see if they've replaced the axle or how they swapped the hubs...
I just picked up two M101's that I won in 5114. One has the rear landing leg, the other doesn't. The serial numbers are only 2 digits off (all others match), so either it was never installed or removed at some point in it's life. I gotta get under there and get it working again, but it'll be...
