Greetings all,
The Indiana chapter MVPA will be meeting 7 August at 10AM. Location is at the Ropkey Armor Museum in Crawfordsville.
We will be finalizing plans for the 17-19 September Rally and Swap Meet. Also planned is a pot luck bring in lunch. Finally, some lucky member will win the $50...
That is the original type hydraulic jack. They went to a mechanic jack at some point. Extract from TM 9-8030 (1955): "The mechanical jack was issued on all models starting with serial No. 80026822, replacing the hydraulic jack."
I've never seen the mechanical jack that replaced it.
Nice score.
I'd get the titles fixed. My 1954 (March delivery) also came from MN (Waseca). The title had the hood/tailgate number on it for the VIN. I got that fixed when I moved into Indiana and retitled it.
Hope to see more photos.
Greetings all,
I came across a seat cushion this weekend that I've never seen or heard of. It is a driver seat bottom that seems to be a one-piece molded cushion. No springs, padding, or canvas cover. The top is an OD vinyl, underneath is a cushion foam rubber layer around a white solid...
The bearing/bushing in front of it ("H" in the illustration) is a bear to get out. Most of your standard pullers won't reach back far enough to get a good bite on it. Be careful pulling the bearings, they are reusable if they don't get dinged up.
Most, including myself, have rigged up a slide...
Jim,
Found this in the military specs "TIRE, PNEUMATIC: FOR MILITARY GROUND VEHICLES" (Mil-T-12459). Found on the ASSIST site.
Cross Country on the left; Mud & Snow (what we keep referring as NDT) on the right.
Yeah, I'll say. You're practically in Illinois. Have you stopped in at any of the MVPAs up in your area (Southern Lake Michigan Chapter MVPA or Tri State MVPA)? They have a few north Indiana and north Ohio folks as I understand.
I always thought those were considered the NDTs design due to the crisp break at the shoulders.
The NDCCs that I remember don't have that break at the corners but rather have a more rounded shoulder.
A reminder for the Indiana MVPA meeting on 8 May. It will be at 10:00AM at the Ropkey Armor Museum in Crawfordsville.
The museum is at 5649 E 150 North, Crawfordsville, IN. Directions can be found on Ropkey Armor Museum
Business will include planning for the September show & swap meet as...
The book (TM 9-8031-2, fig 128) shows it as 7/8". It has been awhile since I've been under mine but in my mind, I thought it was bigger.
When I changed my brake lining out, I could not get it to seat correctly to spec. After I drove it around some, about a week, it seated better and I was...
Dennis,
No, they moved the date up this year because of scheduling with the Navy flight demonstration team. Or, that is what I heard earlier this year. Might be a totally different date next year.
Greetings all,
This is just a reminder that the annual Indianapolis Air Show will be 12-13 June at Mt Comfort, IN this year. Anyone attending with HMVs and wanting to park and display them will need to get their Registration Form mailed in to Chris by 22 May.
Hope to see you there.
Eric,
If you would, please send the redi-sleeve info. I may be looking at doing the same thing later this year.
Also, will the synthetic gear lube you mentioned work in the transmission also? I've read so many things about using synthetic lubes in the transmissions and diffs but can't ever...
Greetings all,
Almost forgot to post a quick reminder for the Indiana MVPA meeting on Saturday, 13 March at 10AM.
This meeting will be at the American Legion post in Carmel (852 W. Main St.). Hope to see you there.
Congratulations! As mentioned, photos are always welcomed. And, they always give a nice reference point for later restorations.
If you haven't already, drop in to the M37 site (G741.org) and register the numbers. It might also give you an idea on what the markings may have been at one time...
Yes, that is the MV registration (AKA Chapter 14) to the Indiana Code. There probably are some restrictions; probably can't use it for commercial or hire with the MV registration.
I talked with the special registrations people in Indy once during the process and I think I remember them...
No, they aren't. They are there for venting purposes. Some folks take them off and plug them, others leave them on.
You can run the truck without them. I ran my truck without them for some time when I had a civilian carb on it. I re-attached them when I put the military carb back on.
Antique plates are an option, so is a Military Vehicle registration. But Indiana's STARS (registration system) doesn't allow straight MV registration, despite how the law reads. You have to register it as antique first, then MV. Once registered as an MV, it is registered for life but you still...
Sorry to hear that news. Last I talked to him in December he had said he was a bit distracted with other stuff going on. Still, my order showed up a couple of days later and about a week after that an invoice showed up. I seem to remember he said something about being in Europe looking for...
