no. look at the manual that Stalwart posted; diagram on page 5. this is the easiest way to hook up the system and get 12V from two batteries in series and maintain your 24V charging system. this is exactly how i did it.
this is much easier than adding a second alternator, and more cost...
no. leave your two batteries connected in series. the equalizer has three connections: 1 to the 12V (1st battery positive), 1 to the 24V (2nd battery positive), and 1 to ground.
you then draw all of your 12V off of the 1st battery positive (i ran one wire from here to a fuse block to pull 12V...
get a battery equalizer - then you can pull off of the first battery without any other considerations.
that's what i've done. i got a Vanner 100A equalizer off of eGay for $65 - so i can pull up to 100A of 12V and the equalizer will compensate continually. i've added 11 different 12V...

kerosene
WVO
WMO
ATF

i'll give you a hint: it's a trick question.
and, btw, you can't run a MF on...
through some other forums and sites i found 140hp @ 2800rpm & 282ft-lbs @ 1560rpm for the 4-53 and 170hp @ 2500rpm & 402ft-lbs @ 1800rpm for the 4-53T. weight of each is around 1150-1200 lbs.
so the 4-53N may not be a performer, but the 'T would likely be more fun to drive. it would likely...
