Swapping in a rear Dana 70 or Corporate 14

Double check that 70, because I thought those used a rear 80. I could be wrong though. For gears, you would want something in the low 3s without OD, such as 3.08. I have a '96 with a Cummins and OD, running aprox. 32" tires (was 265/75/16, then 245/75/17) and with 3.54 gears I had an...

    m1009 lift

Suspension wide, they are just a regular civilian Chevy. You should be able to put 33s on it stock. At most, you might need a tiny trimming at the rear of the front fenders. If you want no trimming, just a couple inch lift is all that's needed. 3" is more than enough, although anyone I know with...

Swapping in a rear Dana 70 or Corporate 14

The price sounds good on the surface, thats a steal considering it includes the fron 60. BUT it won't end up saving you any money if you are looking for 3.73 or 4.10 gears. 4.56 with stock or near stock tires in a diesel truck, and forget using the highway. For that rear, consider the time to...

Work on the War Pig continues

I'm not sure why you are having problems with the computer. Find one of the many Cummins swap services on the web, and send them your computer; they will either send yours back, or if on a time limit, send you a reflashed PCM, all ready to work as a stand-alone controller. These engines get...

Who's broke down on I-75 Florida??

I'll second the cutoff wheel. As said above, cut diagonally and you will be able to cut more without the wheel hitting the hub. If necessary make another cut 180 degrees from the first then it should split pretty easily. Check the spindle after. If it got hot enough to discolor it, I would see...

    Any Pics/Info of a 5.9 Cummins install?

That would be the 3.9 liter, 4bt Cummins. Its exactly like a 5.9 12-valve, except minus 2 cylinders. Front and rear of the block is the same. They are most common in old Frito Lay step vans, and most common with the GM adapter, but some had Ford. The typical GM trans was a TH475, essentially a...

how to turn up fuel...in pictures?

Thanks. I got a shock to myself when I was doing more work on the truck trying to track this down. I guess I may not have an issue...although I still think the engine should rev to 25-2600 fairly easily (just doesn't want to rev past 2200). The engine data plate was very faded with the black...

Attention!! Please use caution when driving vehicles home from auction!

I think the level of chances someone should take when recovering a MV should be related to their experience with bad situations and dealing with problems. I would never suggest to someone who has never done much mechanical work, never driven a large vehicle, and never had to deal with an...

another MV threatened by code enforcement

Nice! It's refreshing to see someplace that is MV friendly. Hopefully some snobby neighbors don't make a fuss. Jim

another MV threatened by code enforcement

:ditto: It might also help to offer to help out once in a while, if it's a smaller/locally owned apartment building. Offer to move or haul things for them from time to time. If need be, offer to park the truck in an inconspicuous place (if there are any). Don't offer this stuff up in the...

another MV threatened by code enforcement

Depends on your state, but an apartment can be worse than a HOA. At least with a HOA they need votes on a board to make rules; with an apartment, all it takes is the owner or manager to set up any rules they want. Jim

I really wanted this one M916a1

Don't feel too bad for not getting one. Take this for what it's worth, as I haven't served, or driven these trucks...I just know several friends who have done both. From what I've been told, the Freightliners weren't highly thought of with regards to reliability. Apparently the rough roads shake...

    Primary Filter Question

Well I was almost back in business. I got it all back together but had to fight a couple leaks around the secondary seals. The new seal didn't sit all the way up in the groove, so lining the can up was tricky. Got that sealed finally, but while checking for leaks found another fuel leak...this...

5 ton wrecker crane and winch in a deuce?

Actually many states just go by what you want to register it for. As long as you are willing to pay for the extra weight, they don't care what the vehicle is rated for. Do you think the DOT knows what axle is in a truck? Larger commercial trucks usually have the weight stamped into the axle, but...

    Primary Filter Question

I tried to reply back earlier but I guess it never showed up. I'm back in business. I made a seal and washer assembly which seals against my Napa filter (the one in the photo was the original that I had removed). I spent 10 years as a precision machinist in a tool room, fabbing custom parts to...

    Primary Filter Question

This is all I have: I looked inside the can, and it looks like the center bolt has a step on it. My guess is that a washer is supposed to stop on that step and hold the spring and filter. Instead, mine has 4 springs running all the way to the bottom of the can. Jim

    Primary Filter Question

Well it looks like no rally for me tomorrow. Because one of my secondaries was installed wrong, instead of 3 filters, my fuel was only going through 1 filter. No wonder 1 filter was dark (far from nasty, just darker) and 2 were very light and clean looking...they weren't doing anything! Thanks...

    Primary Filter Question

I'm in the middle of a filter change and found something odd. I just got done doing a search and reading quite a few threads, with no answer to my question. First of all, my primary has a tall can that looks similar to the secondaries. I read in a coup;le threads how this can be good to allow...

5 ton wrecker crane and winch in a deuce?

I would go down to your local DMV office, and your local insurance offices and get the answers from where it counts. Don't confuse them with too much info, just tell them what the truck would be when it's done (don't tell them you are doing anything custom) and get their word on it. I know from...
