Since it isn't turbocharged, there is nothing at all muffling the exhaust. It will be dangerously loud, and--from what I've read in a thread similar to this--highly recommended against.
With the multifuels or even the Macks (and Cummins in little trucks like Dodge pickups, etc) the turbocharger...
Take a picture of your distributor, distributor shaft, and your oil pump.... (and your engine bay in general, too). This might clear up some of the confusion.
I'd just pop the cylinder head off and replace the head gasket, and then try the compression check again.
I seem to recall that these engines are bad about leaking around/blowing head gaskets. You should be able to see soot and maybe water where the head gasket is leaking if that is the case...
I'd definitely go take a look at it. See if he'll let you drive it, too. That's the best way to decide whether you want a truck or not (be prepared for the first blow of "OD Fever," though!)
Also, you might want to remove the craigslist ad from your posts above:
Don't flip the hubs! Your truck will look ugly and awkward as sin on NDTs singled out. (I'm running singled 11.00x20 NDCCs, I would know!) Get some new rubber at the GA Rally. If you have a tire that has to be removed now, take it off and run a single tire in its position until you can get a new...

Not gonna lie, the 2nd picture in that post is pure MV Joy! Nice photography, and good job y'all!
When it quit without warning, was the engine warm when it would quit? A dying coil will frequently quit working when it gets warm. (At least on some vehicles and tractors.)
Have you checked and rechecked the timing of your distributor?
Have you tried removing the air filter and have someone...

Most just free hand it. They draw the chalk outline of the different colors (from the Paint and Markings TM, which is around somewhere...), start with the full base coat of 383 Green (for Nato 3-color, at least), and then generally use an airbrush or a brush or small sprayer to spray the outline...
Before you get flamed, I would started reading through the "Deuce" section here. Read through as many of the threads as you can, and get educated.
To answer your question, "deuces" go from free to $10k. It all depends on what type of truck you want (with a winch, with a crane, with a dropside...
It depends. Since M37s were not originally equipped with turn signals, they were retrofitted with several different turn signal setups... including the Signal-Stat breaker-point setup, and then the later M-series solid-state setup that you see on the Deuces and 5-tons and later vehicles.
