The other posts about the hot dogging Apache were shut down {why?
This is a, after all a Planes and helicopters discussion group. But no matter we shall move on}
The more general subject of combat tactics today is still a valid one, but this time lets keep the wannabees, and those who...
I used the word supposedly because I think you must have misquoted him. No gunship pilot who saw the video would ever say what you said he did about 'combat approach' and 'SOP' landing.
Makes zero sense.
Ask him again. The pilot in that crash was hot dogging, there is no other excuse possible...

Look, the guys were showing off and doing a buzz job, like many before them and like the many that will follow. That is what we do when the CO is not around.
The first part of the explanation from a [supposedly] former Apache pilot is total BS "What you saw there is NOT hot dogging by any...

The M151 jeep book doesn't have the Vietnamese rebuilt one, only a genuine, all nos, American rebuild of a M151A2 without ROPS and another found in original condition with ROPS. Also there is a list with costs of all the parts used in the complete rebuild.
The M-151 MUTT, a Vietnam Jeep

You may be right, BUT........an early 1970 Ford 'A2' in 1970? Really?? Was this stateside or in VN? I thought they all went to VN
They had the flat front fenders, new A-2 suspension, but were hard to tell apart from the A-1s and the A-1s had canvas. You sure?
1971 was when the first A-2s came...
The A-2 wasn't issued with canvas seats or top, just vinyl, should you care and want to be historically correct. Mine have vinyl but I wish they were canvas, especially the seats, much more comfortable.
I saw one up close in Vn, real close. north of Bien Hoa 1968
Night patrol in a UH-1, 0200 hrs, all lights out, 1000 ft., 100 kts.
Counter rocket mortar mission.
My right seat gunner screams 'Watch Out'.
In a flash I see a Mohawk pass under my rotor blades, his left wing tip about 2 feet from...
Here is one we used in VN, 1968. Hauled our crews out to the ships and then the weapons. I know the tires are not normal and as we were based at Bien Hoa, a USAF facility I suppose they were scrounged up. Look like aircraft tires.
And my restored ex 82nd A5. It has about 8 hours on the meter.
Better start doing some corrosion work on those mag/aluminum sections asap or that tail will soon be just a pile of dust. Look at fixing the the leading edge first. I expect salt is everywhere so a fresh water soak , rinse and repeat , power wash inside is the first step. Then apply a product...
Very nice job on that bird dog. Nice isn't the right word, sorry, exceptional !!
I got a ride in one out of Bien Hoa in 68 from a FAC who flew with us for orientation, I taught him how to be safe in a Huey, well not really, he didn't get the hovering down too well, not enough time.
Where abouts...
