    New brake shoes or not?

I've read this thread twice thru. I had the same issue on an old Suburban, single curcuit, all drum brakes. It turned out that the left front brake hose had a small tear in the interior lining. If you pushed the pedal slowly, the fluid would flow equally to both front brakes, but if you hit the...

    M923 questions

Thanks for all the info, at least now I think I can make an informed decision. Actually would'nt mind a nice deuce, but it really is easier to find a nice 939. McMullag, I totally hear what you said about mountains. There are places in the Coast Range where my pick-up would be dicey. Where I...

    M923 questions

My intended use is/always has been, to have an off-road rv/camper for hunting trips/back country exploring, No mudding, pulling, etc. Too old for that, and don't mind going slower with smaller tires. I like the stability of ten wheels, (and the looks), as well as having several spare tires that...

    M923 questions

Have done several searches, but have been unable to uncover any info on this; One of the common statements/gripes that I have read about, concerning 939 series trucks, is the the massive front-end weight which is not in the best intrest for off-road use in softer terrain. On that note, I see...

    Are prices going up?

I understand your plight. Where I live, M35s are few and far between. When I factored-in the costs of recovery/shipping, they became too expensive. However, within the radius of a couple of hours driveing, there must be at least 15>20 five tonners, with several of them in better condition than...

    My M3 Halftrack

Tanks,APCs, and all kinds of wheeled vehicles are neat,,but there is something about a halftrack,,visceral, sexy, whatever, they are at the top of chain for me. Beautifull looking, it's too bad there ar'nt more of them around.

Off-road Magazine Article about M109 camper

Yeah, saw that mag in the store, nice, well layed-out interior. Being able to have a real shower is bliss. I guess that toilet facilities are one of the hardest things to set-up,,porta potty?

Deuce with 6v92T Detroit and transmission.....????

Ah, just a little 4-53T, with some mild work, will give you an easy 200hp, at 2500, and remove about 500lbs off the front end, and sure leave lots more space in the engine room. Sometimes less, is more.

    Deuce purchase issue in California

This is a soul-searching issue. I think I need to explore shipping costs, and pencil-out the costs of travel/fuel/some tools/some spare parts/lodgeing for two>three days, etc. It's easy to get excited about what might be a good deal, and jump-in without knowing how deep the water is. I'am also...

    Deuce purchase issue in California

That is wise advise, you're right, a disaster in the middle of nowhere would ruin the whole thing real fast.

    Deuce purchase issue in California

Yeah, but I would have to pay for a truck before inspecting it myself, and hope the title didn't get "lost". All it would save me is the price of one two-way plane fare.

    Deuce purchase issue in California

Moderators, if this is in the wrong forum, feel free to move/delete. Just in the last couple of days, a good/long term friend of mine, (who is a good mechanic), found what seems to be a nice M35A2. The problem, is that I'am in Oregon, and the truck is in Calif., and I don't have the CDL that...

    Disc Brake Engineering Thread

You are right, the stock MC, with the airpak, is well suited to developing the pressures needed to operate a disc system. I know we are all in the same book, and prob in the same chapter, but we, (maybe me), just get the pages mixed up.

    Disc Brake Engineering Thread

As an addition, No, the duece brakes are not duo-servo, only the front shoe has any servo, (wedgeing) action. The rear shoe is called a "trailing" shoe, and can only have any brakeing action depending upon WC pressure only. The front shoe is actually doing about 60% of the brakeing effort.

    Disc Brake Engineering Thread

Don't get "reservoir capacity" mixed up with "fluid requirments" for effective braking. From full "on", to full "off" the discs are only moving a few thousands of an an inch. A drum system moves a lot of fluid "back and forth" between the MC, and the WC, much more than discs, due to shoe...

    Disc Brake Engineering Thread

Sure, a little bit of spherical geometry will show that in a drum brake, in which the shoes are fixed at the bottom, and only spread-out at the top by the WC, results in a brake system in which only about one half of the total area of the shoes contributes any real braking effort, and in a...

    Disc Brake Engineering Thread

First of all, I must confess, that while a Chevy pick-up, with front discs/rear drums is not the same as a duece, there are still a few similarities. I have done a rear disc conversion, with great results. The above posted article omits a very important factor. In the typical vehicle conversion...

    My New toy

Read thru the entire thread, your labor of love sure looks great. BTW, that front-end joint is called a "Tracta" joint, and was used in several Dana front-ends up into the early '70s.

    2nd alternator, 12V

This may, or may no be apropos of the electrical hook-ups. During the recent restoration of a '61, 55ft Chris Craft yacht, I used oil pressure switches on the main engines, so that when the engines were not running, (no oil pressure), the field curcuits to the alternators were not energized, so...
