An adapter would be pretty easy to make it's true, it's just knowing what the timing should be might be a challenge since the manuals all tell you to set the static timing and then hand-tune to your engine rather than giving any value. I pulled the top off the distributor to see if there was...

Thanks very much for that, exactly what I needed. I'm about done for the day but I'll have a go at checking/setting timing tomorrow. Of course, the bit about just set the final timing so it doesn't quite detonate is I guess where it's at at the end of the day. My engine and the fuel of the day...

Oh, very nice, thanks very much for that. Of course thats what I'm used to but I didn't see any slot visible so I just assumed they had done something odd. OK, so I know how to adjust the timing a bit and where to look for the mark now. Is this mark a static timing mark or is the engine...

Looks like no surgery or anything, just a month or so in a walking cast. Still not ideal. OK, so I now have a working electronic ignition setup hooked up in 334. I hadn't started the vehicle for a couple weeks so some cranking was required but apart from that it started right up and seemed to...

I made a busbar gauge and set all the busbar heights so now my bands are theoretically adjusted correctly. I do notice the GCP height is a lot more uniform in more gears. Below is the target dimension and where my bands were before adjustment. FWIW gears 2-5 seemed to work OK before...

I had a productive weekend with the Ferret. Turns out I'd not done a good job of centering the shoes on the back brakes before adjusting them so as soon as I used the brakes a couple times had WAY too much slack in the system. After careful adjustment with a friend pumping the brakes after...

See, I'm lucky. Since I have so many things missing it would be pretty simple to pull my fuel tank. :-\ In seriousness, I'll be interested to see if acetone does the job. I guess a lot of MV owners go the outboard-motor gas tank route and I admit that it is tempting to not have to worry about...

Indeed, I've read it's a common problem of people using it like a clutch and I'm sure that's why 1st is tired. I admit that I struggled with that impulse mightily and I'm sure I contributed to that wear in 1st some myself. Is the motor is running better and I trust it more it's becoming...

Thanks. For now I just stole some from my CVR(T). Looks like I should have brake lights as soon as I hook the switch back up. The motor is now running well, I do have a bit of transmission trouble I'm afraid though. Low gear sort of works on very flat ground and lower speeds. If I encounter...

That works for the interior lights, what do you like for the brake lights?

I went through the carburetor with a fine-tooth comb... well, little nozzle on a blow gun and some solvent really. I got it all back together and didn't even manage to loose the little glass balls. Still was having no joy once it went back on. I'd read that sometimes a fuel problem on these...

I got the inner part back in OK, but think I might have the outer plate reversed. I didn't take it completely apart, just enough to clear out the passages. I guess I'll go deeper and do a full teardown.

Taking it off and putting it on was really not that bad at all, of course I own a Datsun 210 so the bar is pretty high. I'm just not sure how the starter carburetor is supposed to work and interact with the rest of the system.

Indeed, it would be lovely to find one to make duplicates of. Someday perhaps. Right now I'm just fretting about the delay in my gearshift arriving and worried I'll have to try to find another.

I got the diaphragms back in the Solex and the vehicle runs, but really badly. I think I might have messed up something in reassembling the starter carburetor. Still, it ran well enough I could pull it out of the shop and turn it around so now the back end is off the ground awaiting brake...

Well, that supports the theory of a hobbyist replacement motor then, or just possibly some international cooperation going on in West Germany? My poor Ferret has no idea if it's Canadian or British I feel. some features of both and no real way to know what it's past was.

I hadn't looked at the engine tag previously and with just over five thousand miles on the clock I thought i was likely to have the original motor, turns out that wasn't the case. I hadn't thought about looking at the tags because I have plenty of real work to do, but the frustration of not...

Indeed, I gather it was a fairly common item for old tractors and such. I'm told the fitting works, but is a lot messier than newer zerks.

Of course you are quite right and now that I think on it I'm sure that's why I threw away the first handful or two of links since I don't aspire to those new-fangled weapons. As to what it was, the Canadians ran the C6 GPMG AKA the FN-MAG AKA the M240
