Colt Yes on the M60 I will PM you the shops number.
Gatos I am going to be off road / logging roads in Alaska. I have seen what happens to aluminum sheets when in contact with small branches, bears are worse. Something ripping open the side of the box like a soda can in sub zero temps with...
I really like this idea. Does away with the cattle call for meal times.
There has to be some local barbecue or Cajun place with a portable set up for catering parties.
We are framing in the entire slide out section and re-skinning in 1/8 steel mostly to prevent damage to the box from branches while I am off road. The floors, ceiling and end walls will now be attached to the side walls and we are adding 2 vertical braces. The 1st will be between window 1 and 2...
Crane truck assist
Had a delay on getting these pictures from the guys at the shop.
Removed the box from the truck so we could work on both the box and the mechanical stuff at the same time in different locations.
My teenager helping with the tear down bit after school and pics of the amount...
Ask for volunteers to set up a kitchen like they do for the GA rally.
Delegating the food issue would save you a lot of headache, if this wasn't going to be my first and most likely only LA rally I would offer my services. As it stands I sure do not mind sending my teenager over to help out.
The box weighs in over 6k I know for certain.
The M35 series with the van body was called a M292 I can not find a picture currently. They were completely over loaded and normally used only as range trucks as far as I could find out.
The width of the box with both sides expanded is closer to...
Adding pics
Added pics of the engine fresh from the machine shop with rebuild kit ready to go.
Started the repairs on the box grinding down the rust and putting on primer for now. Plan on reinforcing and replacing some of the worst parts.
The RV conversion is taking up all my spare time, I am trying to get it done before the rally.
The wife and I are planning on bringing the hoard with us.
If you need help with any of the smaller details let me know I can "delegate" some of the project to my wife.
Tim are those tire chains or winch chains?
I need some tire chains for 14r20s.
What size fuel tank?
I have 2 5 ton winches 1 2.5 ton winch tow bar feet and some other stuff in the classifieds. Can also bring a insulation kit for m35/M809 series cab and a heater set up " not the fuel burner "...
Hoping to have the RV conversion done for this event.
The drive over will be a nice shake down cruise to work out any bugs.
Tim I still have the slave cable adapter I promised. I will have a couple winches for sale at the event as well.
IF the pulley system is working correctly one person can set it up with some difficulty.
Trust me I own 2.
IF the pulley system is even slightly off and I mean as in 1 cable off the tracks it is a royal PITA. It is a 17 foot long 8 foot wide box with an over cab section you do not need to...
Added pics of the axles post sandblasting pre rebuild and air brake mods. In addition to a couple pics of the heads as the tear down starts. Should have the list of parts I need for rebuild on the engine soon. Axles it looks like they are in great shape inside very very low miles no visible wear...
I carry one in each vehicle not just the MVs.
When we are going on a long trip I bring an extra. I have seen brake fires and electrical fires both do bad things to good vehicles in remote areas.
I have several kinds from several suppliers and on this last trip I picked up a couple smaller ones...
Ok updated post 2 with pics of the engine axles and winch assembly I am adding. Still picking up air brake assemblies for the axles with lockers.
Need to order rebuild kit for the NTC 350.
Ok as I just posted on another thread Modern Diesel Legion is taking over the build for me.
I will get pictures today of the axle rebuild and add them to the top of the thread.
I need to update my build thread this week actually.
The axles and engine are being rebuilt this week and getting rolling on the rest of the box tear down and fabrication.
New member Modern Diesel Legion is taking over the project and has dived in head first.
