Also when the engine gets hot the lever can stick if you got the bridge piece too tight. It will move freely when cold. I have seen this several times.
Diesel engines run cool by nature. Lowering or removing the side panels isn't going to affect it one way or another in hot weather.
Cold weather I would advise keeping them up.
Trust me. I tried it. Maybe the heat and sun are a bit more intense here in the south. I dunno. But I can't get herculiner to stick worth a crap. And that's roughing up the surface with 80 grit and using xylene to prep as per instructions.
Also when using it in an undercoating gun the...
They do. Maybe not herculiner but other similar spray on bed liners come in a spray can.
I will say this now. Don't waste your money on any of them. Especially herculiner. Absolutely garbage.
These liners don't bond worth a darn and they aren't u.v. stable. The sun will literally make...
Your synchros may not like that synthetic oil. No harm in trying it but it may not shift very good. Sometimes modern super slick oils aren't what these old transmissions like.
Hmm. Possible. These are typically self purging but it isn't unheard of to need to bleed the lines.
Sometimes they need a quick whiff of starting fluid after an ip change to light off. Most don't. I don't have a good answer for why some are more trouble to get started than others.
Also for future reference if your pulling a correctly timed ip off of an engine then you just need to line up the ip timing mark, make sure the red tooth is visible under the shut off cover, and verify the harmonic balancer timing mark.
If all of that is in order your ready to swap pumps.
When you timed your pump did you have the timing mark lined up under the square cover AND have the red/scored tooth visible under the shutoff cover?
The red tooth does NOT need to be lined up with its pointer. Just visible in the window.
I ask because you may have the ip 180°out of time.
I only mentioned it because they are pretty reliable and very strong. I do agree that getting a rebuilt one is expensive. Been there, done that. But if he can find one that doesn't scratch when shifted they are usually good to go. Aside from the irritating gear noise.
Another idea as far as a drive train swap could be a 12 or 24v 6bt cummins with a ford zf-6 transmission. It's plenty strong for a deuce and has a .72 overdrive. Shouldn't be super hard to locate one since they were available in ford superduties for over 10 years.
