    Got an ignition switch question

Housing Pressure Cold Advance I think. Although I may have the acronym screwed up. No promises. It's the solenoid that advances injection pump timing when the engine is cold for easier starting.

    2 odometers @ 00000.0 ea.

The loophole in the federal law is that as long as you disclose the actual mileage, the odometer mileage doesn't have to match it. But I'd pass on any vehicle with a fraudulent odometer, no question.

    Got an ignition switch question

Can't answer the questions about the function of the ignition switch, but yes, all you need is power to the IP solenoid for running, since the truck has mechanical injection. All that does, though, is make the truck run/not run, you'll need power to the starter to get it going, as well as the...

    2 odometers @ 00000.0 ea.

I would assume that anybody who wanted to take the time to restore a CUCV would also have the time to spend to hook up a drill to the odometer and set it to whatever they wanted. Yeah, odometer fraud is a crime, but I don't know if anybody really cares that much about it.

Is a CUCV Noisy & Smoky?

Anyplace where they're going to be picky enough to set deed restrictions like that isn't likely to enjoy a 20 year old diesel pickup around the neighborhood. Sure, it's all relative, but I'd bet that they're all driving Civics and the like, and yeah, a CUCV is going to be loud as hell by...

    reliable diesel rebuilders?

Personally, I think I'd do it myself. Or go with a 6.5.

    best battery

Pretty much. The military loves standardization, rightfully so. CUCVs didn't need 24v systems, either, it had to do with standardization. So maybe it's relevant whether we're talking about a CUCV or a Deuce, maybe it's not, but I think it's worth reminding people who stumble upon the thread via...

    best battery

Just so we're clear, we're talking about CUCV batteries, not deuce batteries.

    best battery

While I don't dispute what you're saying, I tend to go overboard battery-wise, so that I have the extra power available for inverters, work lights, etc.

How do I test my batteries?

If the batteries are "fine," yet showing only 400CCA, something is amiss. Try a trickle charge (it's worth a shot, I guess), but I'm wondering if there's just something wrong with the batteries overall- are they the correct size/shape/description/model/etc.?

How do I test my batteries?

Or just check the grounds for resistance.

How do I test my batteries?

Your batteries don't work. They won't accept a charge. They are shot. Replace them. If you'd really like, you can have them tested at Advance Auto, AutoZone, whatever, but I'd say they're shot- they show proper voltage, but won't hold enough charge to start the truck, so when you put a load on...

wheres the engine block drain, 4 coolant?

Hm, for some reason I thought they were plastic, but I really don't remember. Then again, my radiator was replaced in 2007, so it may not be original type, model, etc.

wheres the engine block drain, 4 coolant?

Are the drains on these radiators plastic or metal? I ask because it's too cold out for me to check, and I'm not home. Anyway, if it's plastic, I wouldn't touch it. Those things get brittle with time, and can often suffer damage when being removed, and then you're in trouble. I find it's...

    best battery

I use fleet batteries, which come from http://www.tristatebattery.com/. They're local to me, and I'm in there with disturbing frequency to get isolated ground alternators rebuilt, etc. They're $100-$120 each, I think. Edit, I believe they have 1000 and 1200 CCA sizes that work with the CUCV well.

    24 to 12 volt

Just run them off one battery.

    35's and shifting?

The Blazers have 3.08 gears. They're good for the highway. Not much else. The pickups have 4.56 gears. They suck on the highway.

    Turbo

Yes, I've heard about every Miata joke known to man. People stopped saying anything in person, though, after I went to the drag strip with some friends, and sent them all home in shame. :D Now they won't even take me up on my invitations to go to the track for a rematch, but I suppose the 10psi...

    Insurance ???????

What companies does AAA write for in your area? Here it's Travelers and somebody else that I can't remember, mostly just curious if it's the same companies everywhere or different in different areas. The rates were pretty good.

Total destruction of all End-Use items (end of trucks???)

You guys crack me up, I've never come across a group so obsessed with doomsday, except for maybe a few religious cults. It seems like every couple weeks a new thread pops up predicting that the end is near, and I guess by taking that approach, it will ensure that at least one of the prediction...
