I thought about fording one time but decided against it after I read about all the post-fording maintenance I would have had to do. RIFLEMAN makes a good point.
The first thing we all need to do is stop calling them rebuilt trucks. I know I have been guilty of this. Just the other night, when showing a friend my trucks, I caught myself several times referring to one of my RRAD trucks as rebuilt. Most of them...not all (some of the facilities appear to...
Here is a pic of my old M275A2. This truck eventually made its way to Kenny (RECOVERY4X4), too. This was a sweet running truck. I have never before heard a deuce scream like this one did. It was a whistler's whistler! The pic shows it as a non-turbo; John Winslow did the conversion for me (I...
Oh yeah...I meant to add this...don't buy a truck for the transmission (unless you want to do that)...go to one of the many guys parting trucks out on this list for a transmission.
Just curious how it happened? Was it flat towed or did a wrecker service fail to put the transfer case in neutral? I would hope that a professional wrecker company would know to put the t-case in neutral, but maybe not. Good luck!
The fuel filter you are referring to IS from the A0 and A1 series (and M809 series). As near as I can figure, BMY felt that the truck could use the small spin on filter that is mounted close to the motor on the driver's side along with the inline filter. I actually am not positive that the...
Check the speed rating on the tires. I assume from your post you are driving an M923, which would imply that it has 1100s on it, right? G177s? If so, they probably could handle the speed. I don't believe the super singles are rated for that kind of speed. I have seen on the sidewalls of the...
Cool that you got one. I had a guy who promised me one, so I passed on bidding when they came out, only to find that what he wanted to sell me at $10K turned into $25K for the power unit alone. I am not saying that price is not worth it, but I could have bid on them for less.
I've purchased them regularly for like $22-27/each NEW. With all the trucks being parted out, I bet you could find them cheaper used. Contact John Appel on this list. I believe his screen name is JAPPELJR or something like that. John is a great guy to deal with.
Man, I'm glad you said it first because that was exactly what I was thinking. Did anyone see that "rebuilt" NHC 250 in GA on GL that went off on last week's sale? It had a fist sized hole in the block right next to a nice, clean data plate that said it was rebuilt at RRAD! I think the date...
I recall hearing that they closed a little while back. It is a true loss in my opinion as they were very hobbyist-friendly. I have also dealt with the John Johnson company and had good luck. Do any of the other manufacturers use the rubber rope like GMA did. As far as I understand, they...
Without checking MAPQUEST, is Limon anywhere near Denver? I have a good friend in Denver named Dino (he's on this list, but not often) who is very knowledgeable about the M939 series trucks. Best of all, he has an M923A2 that was converted to an M925A2. If you'd like, PM me and I'll give you...
I should have added...
I once was at Ft. Meade inspecting and I saw an early 70s bucket truck that I recognized from a PA location on a previous sale. The site manager told me they had the buyer turn the truck in at the location because of a request from the government. The site manager told...
